Guest Evo TME
hey guys, im planning to buy a highly modified Evo 9 but im not sure if i will need to reprogram the ECU or not. Its currently tuned on 98 Octane fuel but since im importing the car and the local fuel is only 95 Octane im not sure what the results will be. Can i drive the car or is it unsafe to use it? Should i lower the boost? or should i just have the car reprogrammed on 95 Octane fuel? please feel free to add any other tips or recommendations. Appreciate the help. sams
welcome. maybe asking on a evo forum would get you the best answer. do you own a supra? or looking to getting one?
JamieP
Not mkiv technical, but you will need a remap for your chosen fuel.

Wez
Will need a remap to be safe, otherwise it could det itself to death
bondango
Nope, Evo 9's run both a High and low octane Fuel and ignition map. ECU switches between the High and low maps depending on knock count.
JamieP
He did say "highly modified" though, im my book thats aftermarket ecu etc.
bondango
Would really depend on Highly Modified. Ive built and few 400/400 Evo's and used the Stock ECU with my custom maps, still leaving a low octane set in place for safety reasons. Though i Doubt its that highly modified, even a stock Tommi Mak knocks on straight super. But, after reading he aint talking about the EVO..he talking about a supra lol So to answer that, i would look into the possibilty of Blending Fuels, i.e. can you get E15/E85 or run your own Toulene/Xylene Mix with 95'?
