tbourner
Anyone know a brand of overcoat or jacket or mac or coat that's actually waterproof and stays waterproof for more than a few weeks? I bought a RainPod which claims to be waterproof "in the worst weather conditions", unfortunately it seems to work a bit like tent fabric (you know, as soon as you touch your head on it you get a stream of water running down your back), essentially it's waterproof as long as you're not touching it - pretty useless for a jacket then. The wifes one she wears to walk home from work and after a month it's not waterproof at all, she might as well be wearing a jacket made of kitchen towel (and not that Juan Sheet crap either). I don't want all this marketing crap about it being breathable, that just means it has small holes in it, I want a solid piece of plastic wrapped around me , we can't make leather as well as nature does so stop trying. Trouble is whenever I search for 'PVC mac' I get sent to bondage sites and S&M forums! So, anyone know of anything that actually works and that still only costs £15? dangerous brain
You could try cutting arm and head holes in a black binbag and then use a second as a hood What do you expect for £15 FFS lol.
Scott
High vis jackets are generally waterproof. Obviously not the waistcoat ones but the proper full length ones are. Get one and dye it
Scott
Oh, if you can spend a bit more than £15 you could look into golfing clothes or fishing clothes. I had a set of waterproofs when I used to play golf and they were virtually thin rubber. Fishing stuff will be similar. I doubt you will get anything that cheap though. Digsy
Find your local saddlery and check out what they have. They'll be getting all their winter stock in now. Horsey people have to be out in all weathers every day doing physical work so their stuff tends to be good quality, dry and "breathable". It will cost you more than £15 though! tbourner
OK so £15 is a bit of an ask. I wanted it cheap though otherwise I'd just get some motorbike leathers and look like a twonk on my bicycle.
Scott
You're at it. You're looking for a bright yellow PVC raincoat & hat so that you can dress up as paddington bear. When I was young the raincoats we had were cagoules(sp?). They were thin plastic and went over your jacket. I think they were about 5p to make and they would fit in your pocket. Do those still exist? Ric
northface stuff is usually good for me, but add another digit onto the price!
Chris Wilson
Anything truly long term WATER proof is usually impermeable so you sweat like hell in it. Personally if working I find it better to just get a bit wet.

Ooh here's one: http://www.cagouleshop.co.uk/products/Adult-Green-Waterproof-Raincoat-In-Bag-Cagoule-Mac/B0018LW35U Anything truly long term WATER proof is usually impermeable so you sweat like hell in it. Personally if working I find it better to just get a bit wet. I need something to wear for cycling to work in winter, it's only 3 miles so shouldn't be too much bother. I love the rain and don't care about getting wet normally but don't want to be soaked at start of work and can never be bothered with getting changed (got full shower rooms etc at work just can't be naffed with it).
