really low flying fighter jets

Yeah, not bad, I guess.

I personally have flown an F-22 heavy underground.

The mission called for a heavily defended tunnel to be navigated and the target within to be destroyed. After we dealt with the surrounding ground defences first of course.

"Ace combat" - Squadron Leader for the PS2. A bloody good game!:innocent::D

Can't wait for the PS3 offering.

Is anyone here actually a pilot?

To me it looks easy to fly that low (if you can fly in the first place of course), but then you start thinking about relative air pressures needed above and below the wing to get lift and think maybe going that close to ground would really screw up that ratio and make it awfully unstable!!! Anyone actually know first hand?

Ground effect mate, at speed a cushion of air forms under the wing and airframe due to higher pressure air and the aircraft sits on that for want of a better word. Larger the plane/wing, larger the cushion. The old Buccaneer used to be the master of the low flaypast. And some larger planes have to be forced into the ground so efficient are flaps, slats etc nowadays.

Search Ekranoplan :)
