ReNe0
Hi Guys 'n' girls. Got a bit of a problem. I have just mounted my speedocluster again after a littlebit of cleaning. When it all was back togther, and i would fire her up, the fuse for dashboard died. I replaced it, and now the light in the dashboard is very week, and when i turn on the lights, disappears the light in the odometer. The dimmer dosen't work either. Could that be the problem ? Cheers
Supra Gaz
If The dimmer knob thing doesn't work then your dials won't illuminate, I had this. I ordered a new on from keron, popped it in and bobs your mothers brother all was well!
ReNe0
But the the dials are working, they are just glowing low, and the odo meter dosen't glow at all, when i turn on the headlights. When the headlights are turned off, the odolight works fine. Very strange.
Supra Gaz
Ooo, right, odd question, has the dimmer knob thing got wet/damaged? Basically it controls the dash lighting, if it is damaged it will balls up everything, I got mine wet when I sprayed my dash and when I put everything back together I had a very similar problem to you. My dash was stuck on very low light and when my lights were on I couldn't read my mileage, like I said above, I changed the dimmer and all was well, it didn't cost much from keron Hope it helps

Scott
Sounds like you now have a short in your speedo cluster. The fact that a fuse blew after having it out would point to this. Did you put in the same rating fuse? If you went with a higher rating fuse this could happen as the current being used isn't high enough to blow it. I would take the cluster out and check all the wiring thoroughly. Is it standard gauges & Bulbs or El-Glow/Heckler/Aftermarket ones?
ReNe0
The rating at the fuse is the same. I have mounted some aftermarket ones. Will take it out again and have a look. I have also hooked up with a buddy and i will try his lightdimmer.

AndrewOW
Thread resurrection alert. I seem to have the same problem, and will bypass the dimmer switch for now, and see if makes a difference.
TubbyTwo
I need to do this as well.
AndrewOW
I've just noticed when taking the dimmer switch off, that the very same earth wire comes from the dimmer switch through to where the wire frazzled yesterday, so can maybe assume that's where my problem lays. I'll see if I can get another dimmer switch then!
RA28
Have you tried shorting out the dimmer circuit. I fitted an open spade connector to bypass the dimmer. At least you could check if the dimmer is causing the problem.
AndrewOW
Good idea. I'll do that then.

AndrewOW
Well, that didn't work. I've got another dimmer on order from Keron anyway, so will replace it. Maybe the earthing problem goes beyond somehow.
