Polo
Cheers guys!! Time for a well over due monster update!! last thing i done after the front splitter was fitting the mesh tot he bonnet! Tiger seal FTW! Then fabbed up the screamer pipes and got a mate to tig weld them The next morning it was up to Greg at protuner Yes that is all below 5750rpm Then streight from protuner to the bodyshop, literally 6 hours later Then the 4-5hour task of masking the Falken design This is all gun finish BTW, no polishing atal At this stage i was quite worried it was going to look crap Its like a hole new car By this stage i was very excited and pleased how it was looking
Polo
That was up till about a day and a half before the 1st round, this little update will be up to then So i rushed the Lexan windows but was really happy how they came out I was gooing to construct some sort of frame to hold the top of the door window in but only had time for lock wire, it works really well so will be staying! I had the guy nex door knock up me a knob on his cnc lave as i couldnt find one to fit Then it was time to tackle the lack of steering lock I took to the stock rods with the lave Bump stops with and angle grinder and ta da, still not great but a huge improvement! Then a few shots out side before it got dark and the rest was finished like fire extinguisher, harness etc Note the rear lexan window, only pic i have Then after using the car a few times it came apparent that A) no single or twin plate clutch would work so in went a tripple B) i had a major gear oil leak so i fitted a -6 breather in the box wich stopped all leaks But the tripple plate clutch done this to 2nd gear (nothing to do with my angry driving):wack: so now im looking for T56 or V160 conversions, some thing i didnt want to do until the end of the year! And i also got a differant bumper for when i dont want to bash the nismo one

Polo
Just superb, cheers for spending the time uploading to the site, really interesting read and great pics. Looks a beast of a motor. So what's next on the project list As said in my 1st post in this thread today....... I was thinking of selling it and moving onto some thing else through out the year but in Portugal it worked and I came 4th so it's given me some confidence that it can work!! Throgh out the year iv had endless problems with the car, mainly power steering and transmission. Iv cured the power steering by fitting a 350z pump. So over the winter il be doing the following to make it a hole load more awesome!! Handling is prety bad and it feels like a bus to drive, so il be fitting/making fibre glass doors, front wings, rear 1/4s, boot and bonnet, chopping out all the metal I can with in the rules! Also to level up the weight loss and make it handle better I'm shifting weight around in the car for better distribution by moving the rad and other things to the back. Il also be remaking alot of things in light weight materials. Steering lock is a major issue with the car, loosing out in qualification due to weak angle so il be doing alot of work on the front steering and suspension. The car is going to be corner weighted next week so I have an idea of what iv got to work with and then compare it afterwards. Il also be fitting a v160 6spd box, this will be much better suited to the 3.4:1 diff I have now, which is alot of the problems I'm having with blowing boxes, ATM pulling away in 1st is like 2nd gear as it's so long geared! The other thing I'm going to do if I can afford it is change the hks ecu out for syvecs and go for closer to 700hp. To help with the power I'm hoping to freshen up the engine with rods, pistons, springs and cams. Right, I'm off the rob a bank lol

Right, I'm off the rob a bank lol Glad you're sticking with it Paul, I've been watching you all year mate and you've looked like you've been struggling in the car, so what you've said here explains a lot, but this is too nice a build to sell after such little time, so keep going mate, it'll make the good qualifications and good results feel so much better once you start getting them, and you will, you know how to drive a car after all. Everytime I see this though it makes me want to build something just as nice, or attempt at something as nice, along side my cobbled together attempt of a car lol , but you do this for a living, I support Datacenters and Im not sure I could afford to carry the debts it would incure, as I could imagine yours are from this car ! Chris Wilson
Fantastic amount of work, well done. Thanks for sharing this. May I ask who you used for the acid dipping and electroplating of the nuts and bolts, and did the *ugger any? Where's all the weight come from, seems pretty hefty? Good luck with it, what a great build.

Good luck with it, what a great build. A place in aylesbusry called QED (quallity electro deposits). No non got buggered but iv had a few small washers go missing before, think they get throgh the gaws on the draining presses. Well the car is 1590kg as stock, obv iv removed all the weight in the seats, airbags, heater box etc but iv also replaced the alloy v6 with a cast iron 6 cylinder, added turbo, intercooler etc etc and the cage which is about 80kg The 350z/350gt are a heavy car, the chassis members are huge, with loads of bracing etc
SteamAhead
That's going to take some doing on the weight issue. Still, as someone said to me on saving money and weight in a car..... just go on a diet So what was the problem with the power steering? I thought a lot of the original parts are taken from a 350z? Chris Wilson
I will read this in full tonight, thanks for the info on the plating, I will have a bucket full of stuff needing doing fairly soon, I'd rather use somewhere that's been tried by a member, I have had some bad experiences with platers. I had forgotten the OE engine was all alloy.....

When going on to full lock the pump was stalling causing the belt to jump off, mid corner at 70mph is scary!! Also the way the ps pump is mounted on the JZ engines, it relies on the AC compressor to support it, i have romoved the AC, i did make a braket but the pump still flexed under high rpm, so now i have made an even stronger one. Polo
Thoght id bring my other project into this thread as well. Think you guys will like this one too OK, its not a drift car, but its very drift related and its defo a BIG project! Since we have been using the artic to transport the cars, and even before, like every one does, we all wanted an inclosed car transporter! Natrully, youd think they are masive money and way out of reach of normal scum bag drifters haha. But during the summer, we found this baragin!! Ok, from the out side just a normal 15-20 year old artic trailer??? NO!! Not atal, far from it, its an ex race car transporter, not a converted one, as far as we know it was built from new into a race transporter, so no home made, chucked to gether in a barn job!! Ok its not state of the art for these days, its an old girl, which needs some work to bring it back to life..... Yes thats IIRC a super rare 240z race car in the back on the day we went to view it! This is the day we collected it, it hadnt moved in at least 4 years, we wer very serprised the brakes all worked fine and wernt locked on!!! We also found that not long before it came off the road it had 6 new air bags and a full set of 12 tyres, not cheap crap either! The hole trailer is electronic hydraulic, what this means is the tractor unit does not have to have a PTO (power take off for hydraulic pump) the trailer has its own hydralic pumps that work off of the 24v supply from the tractor unit. This is an inside shot, its setup to take 6 cars, 4 saloon sized cars and two smaller car like open wheelers, as the hight is not as big over the 5th wheel. This is the car deck above the 5th wheel, its on its own electronic hydraulic system, one car on top, one car under. Wel be taking this lot out so we can fit 3-4 cars and have a living area. View from the back, the deck you can see here rases, is totally made from alloy and takes two cars. To get the cars into the trailer, it has a nice hefty tail lift, the guy who had it before us said he used it to change a discovery gearbox before, so more than strong enough for some saloon cars. Also means we wont have to remove any bumpers etc to load the cars.
Polo
To make the living area, we managed to pic up this crash damaged 2008 caravan for free which wel use most of the parts from to kit it out! Mr Carter hard at work today dismantling it Our cooker, fridge and sink combo Cupboards etc Over the next few months see it take shape, it will also be going in Falken colours and livery
Polo
Ok, so me and Matt have been doing a few hours in the eves this week................. 1st job was to replace the bust hydraulic hose so we could get the deck moving and make sure it all worked ok, we only had the word of the guy we got it from that it worked. When we went to look at it it was up and loaded, when we went to collect it, it was down and unloaded, and he informed us a hose went while unloading. In the end we replaced the one hose but got 7 spares as the others are bound to go at some point as there all perished!! Was a bit of a tight and a bitch to do but we got there after a few hours and the deck worked perfectly. Pic from standing at the back of the top deck when up, just over 5ft hight clearance. Pic from standing right at the front of the truck with deck up Pic looking under the top deck at the bottom deck. Both decks are exactly 30ft long, so just enough space for 2 s14s Then we set about removing the front top deck above the 5th wheel. pic with it all removed, we done this in the dark with two torches, a petrol disc cutter, in an enclosed space with hydraulic fluid every where! lol Front upper deck, going to be putting it up for sale, if any one may want it, comes with rams, pump, pipes, deck, every thing needed. Then it was to take a look into the damp in the wall around where the door used to be.......... diagnosis....very wet and rotten!! This is what it should look like behind the foam!!!! So basicly we are going to replace the hole side above the 5th wheel on one side, about 12ftx7ft
Polo
Ok, so me and Matt have been at the trailer again the last few nights!!! Been pussy footing about not wanting to make a hole in the side until we have the bits to patch it up, but in the end, i just told Matt to hit it with the sledge hammer :smash: lol The consiquence.................. In the light today So we set about removing the rest of what we are going to replace and tidy it all up. Here is some of the water/rott we removed and the hole we're now left with :wack: its 11ft x 8ft 2inch, wer off to find some GRP tomorow! Polo
Time for another update, iv been away for the last four days so sorry about that lol. Last week we got it inside to keep the water out and let dry out what bits wer damp. Used the V8!! very tight fit with less that 6 inch to spare Cool list of places the trailer has been 1st job was to remove the horrid dated corrigated alloy strip down the side, which was also letting water in the join! And then clean off all the sealant, glues, stickers etc We found a milomiter on one of the wheels, bloody low miles for a trailer!! thats in K's not M's!! Then the tast of rubbing it all down and prep for paint! Lucky i was away for most of this while the others cracked on with it! Then a trial of the paint, we wer going to spray it, but itd be too messy, too expensive so we are rolling it on It helps that Mr Carter is a painter by trade, so it can be done right with out looking crap! Matts 1920s scafolding :wack: Two layers of under coat done! I know your proberbly asking why there is still a hole?!?! well we are waiting for the materials for that section, so just doing what we can with what we have! Then it was to seal up the join that the corigated alloy strip covered, we used normal house soffit board And for all the haters of house hold paint, look at the finish! This is just under coat so a mat finish until we get the gloss on.
Polo
Then tonight we got the bottom in under coat We have also be protecting bair metal as we go, with under seal
