Help finding a new car!

Ok guys it's crunch time now, my car is now sold and now I'm faced with the dilema of getting a new economical car, ideally I would prefer a diesel, although small petrol engine cars i would consider too, number one it has to be a very reliable motor, ive just been looking at a4s ranging from 2000-2004, do quite like the look of them but for the budget of around 4k they have done quite alot of mileage, most being 100k plus, but on a diesel audi im guessing if its been looked after it wont really matter?

Ive looked at toyota corollas 1.4 petrol but they are so boring looking and I think I would prefer something a bit bigger that eats up motorway miles with ease!

Any help would be appreciated, especially from any members with a4 diesels as im now swaying more towards one of them.

Cheers

The Passat looks like a decent deal. My mate had one that shape and loved it....;)

Any noted problems with it? How long as he had it? Im very very tempted to go take a look, judging from reviews they seem to be reliable and fairly cheap to service etc, an obviously excellent fuel economy. Definately better than a boring corolla diesel
