chainy
Looking for some advice on a desktop to replace my laptop that I have been using for the last four years. The problem is I am not all that clued up on the different specs that is available. I have a budget of about £600 and I am wondering which one of these two machines would be the most suitable. http://aberdeen.gumtree.com/aberdeen/46/65699246.html http://aberdeen.gumtree.com/aberdeen/15/65535315.html
Porky1978
Go for the second one mate. IMO the gtx graphics card is much better than the ati even though its got less memory. Been overclocked by the people that made it too so you know its been done by the professionals.
JS2004
2nd one looks a bit better. The processor has already been overclocked so you dont have to mess around with any of that - the other one you could overclock. Your getting a monitor and fairly decent keyboard with the 2nd too. Dont know what kind of ram is in the 1st one - imagine it would be ddr3 but could be ddr2 - but the second one has more of that and good speed on it too. Might want to check what O/S the 2nd one has though to make sure its using all the ram - should be a 64bit one.
DamanC
Would not touch the first with a barge pole! Unbraded RAM and PSU Second is rather reasonable, its an OCUK unit which is far better than some bedroom project. Case is not great, bit of a mess inside, could do with an extra front fan (Slightly suicidal running it without!). The GTX260 is knocking on a bit (since been replaced by a GTX 460, but is still and able card.

Thorin
I should probably add that I'm still extremely happy with my PC from Daman, I had a budget of more than that though. But and i5 based system would still be very nice
Scott
pc world..... That's where it all went wrong bud 2nd PC out of those 2 options but I would be tempted to up the budget and buy/build a customised one. No point in bells and whistles where you don't need them, focus your money on what you want to do with the PC and leave the rest of the guff out. Reasonable processor with reasonable board to suit, A decent matched pair of 2gb ram, Decent GFX card, 2x 1tb Samsung Spinpoint. Never ever skimp on the powerpack or the case though. The case makes a massive difference to performance and the powerpack safegaurds your hard earned
sams
Utter tripe of a machine. i thought they were reasonable, i had the modal before and it done me prowd, and still running strong. the only niggle i have is my processer has decraded slitghtly
The-Plethora
Second PC is good. If your getting one new Overclockers are still fairly good (god help you if you need to RMA anything though). I say the 2 most important things are PSU and motherboard, never skimp on those.
TonytotheB
There is no point buying a crazy machine worth up to £2k. It'll be worth nout after 1 year because something else will come out. Second one. I used to have XF 4890s and they were awesome. Nvidia will allow you to play PhysX games, if that floats your boat. You can make PhysX work with ATI but you need both cards. Awwwwww I miss my gaming PC now. This is from my OCUK and Battlefield BC2 days... cost me £2.5k all in
chainy
Thanks for the advice guys looks like I will go for the second one and take it from there. Is it safe to say that the machine is well spec'ed for the £600 that he is after or is there any other machines that I should be looking at for about that money.
