Tricky-Ricky
This is driving me nuts, had an increasingly slower wireless connection for the last few days, the router reports a good connection speed, and i can get a good speed from LAN but wireless is crap, Now i have not moved the router and AFAIKS the laptop setup is the same, can't find any viruses or malware, registry is OK, not programs that i can find are hogging the bandwidth, If i reset either the router or the laptop adapter i get better speed for a short time, but then it reverts to s l o w! Has anyone got any ideas? i am not all that with computers, although i manage pretty well, but i can't think of anything else. I did phone Sky and ask if the router wireless can degrade, but they say the wireless will either work or not.
Branners
I would see if you can change the channel that the wifi is using. There are 13 WIFI channels that the units typically have available. Most are up around 11. I tend to set mine down around 4 or 5 if I have problems. You need to get in to the admin control panel for the router and check what channel it is on, and then try fiddling with the channels. Bear in mind things like cordless phones, microwaves and Sky Anyroom type things can affect it.
Steve
I had to change mine to channel 3 as my wireless doorbell was interfering with it.
Tricky-Ricky
Already been into the router and i have been through all the setting channels and tested, thought i had it good on channel 12, but its still slow, I have also tried moving the router, although not by much due to the caballing, but it doesn't seem to help. It was suggested that i change the encryption to WEP although not tried this yet, does it offer the same level of security as WPA PSK? Branners
WEP is not the best security, but it is better than nothing at all. A good hacker will get past WEP way quicker than WPA, but you have to ask yourself would a suitable hacker be interested in your home connection? I think there is a bigger problem there than just the encryption. How old is the wireless unit?
Tricky-Ricky
The router is about two years, and my laptop is three.
