Havard
My second Xbox just let me down again. No RROD, starts up tries to read the disc and comes up "open tray" on the screen where the game title should appear. It's as if the motor or the laser has given up. Never had one that has last more than 15 months, the first died after 11 months..... I will speak to Microsoft. If they don't swap it or repair it FOC then I am going to either get a PS3 or smash this one up with a hammer and bring my game playing to a close. Pi$$ed off is not the word. H. j_jza80
My disc drive was/is on the flop, it's out of warranty so I tried fiddling around with the drive. I found that gently bending the dray down seems to solve this (for a while) You can tell I'm technically minded

add heywood
I feel your pain, PS£ had the YLOD last month, and now th Wii has packed in today for my son They are both long out of warranty so I have to pay over £350 to get up and running again. I only have the xbox 360 left, if that goes Im going to be rather pissd to say the least
Swampy442
Sure its not the disc? I had the same problem on mine, had the disc cleaned at gamestation for a quid and that sorted it.
Havard
No kept swapping between a DVD and a game. After 20 attempts to get the thing to work I gave up and started this thread in anger. All I wanted to do was watch "The Longest Yard" while I did the ironing.... Gave the Xbox one last switch on/off and it read the disc. Just watched the film and got lots ironed. I think this is the start of the end for my machine though..... H. I have an Xbox360 but cannot understand it's relevance. The noise it makes is unacceptable, it's unreliable and the games just aren't very good. Apart from left for dead. That's fun.) Forza 3 is like GT4 on the PS2 (whoa the numbers!). Excellent graphics I admit, but very linear. I feel forced to race races I don't want to race. I've reverted to my PS2 - playing Tenchu at the mo (best game that was ever made) and loving it. Stin

caseys
Does no one remember my console thread?? Any console less than iirc 5 years old has to be repaired or replaced by the *retailer* if it has died of a fault and not through misuse. Covered by the eu sale of goods act any electrical equipment has to last 5-6 years. All you need is proof of purchase. The onus is on them. Sorry to hear that man, that sucks! Mind you, if it does eventually stop working, if I were you I'd phone them up and sound proper angry on the phone and have none of it telling them about how many times your Xbox has failed. Maybe you could blag the new Slim version!
Martin J
Sucks I've never used my Xbox for films (I do have an HD-DVD drive for it though), and always copy the game to the hard drive so the disc isn't constantly being accessed. Apart from my first Xbox dying after a month (my fault, I left it on carpet for a bit, no air circulating..!!!!) this one has been good. You can get replacement DVD drives for them though, £20-£30 and there's videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. Cheaper than a PS3

Shock horror it finally has built in WiFi and its quiet ! Fortunately my ps3 has done that since day 1 and I'm on a launch console that hasn't broke down once. H, weather you go for another 360 or ps3 you don't want to give up on the gaming Some quality titles out soon
