How to split 2 piece rims

Neil-NA

Recommended Posts

I have some Volk AV3 2 piece rims that i want to split down so i can polish the entire wheel.

Is it just a case of tyre off, undo bolts and then its done?

When putting back together do i need sealent and new bolts.

Slightly retarded q's i know but i couldnt find much using the search.

Thanky you.

With 2 piece rims the centre spoke section is bolted to the outer rim, you just undo the bolts and knock the centre out, no need for sealant and tryes off (unless youre getting them repaired) 3 piece rims need sealing. Dont forget the new bolts and nuts ;)

Nice one matey, thats what i thought but i have a mate who was trying to convince me that they need the tyres off and are also welded not only bolted.

Will give him a slap and then start my wheels, much appreciated buddy :D

If your polishing the entire wheel i'd take the tyres off, i'd clean up the bolts if they will as there not cheap to replace, mine cost over £200 !!

You might not need nuts as a lot of 2 piece have the centre section bolted direct into the outer rim, make sure you get a good fitting socket to undo the bolts, are they allen key type or multipoint ?

Yes the entire wheel mate, i will get the tyres off as i need to change 2 valves anyway.

The bolts are allen key type i believe, if i do need to replace them where is the best place to get them from?
