jonathanc
I've tried everything I could but can't seem to crack this so I hope someone out there knows a solution. Right, I have an Audi 01 non BOSE Symphony system in my A8. I am almost there but I am stumped with how to wire the rear and possibly shelf speakers. There's only 2 pairs of wires on the Speaker harness which powers the fronts. I've Googled and found out the rear speakers are powered by an amp on the rear shelf. I have no clue how to wire the outputs of my HU to suit this arrangement... Is there a wire I can a tap from the front or do I have to connect directly to the amp on the rear? I hope someone who did this before could offer some advice. Thanks!
Guest JonnyD
On all my A3's I had to ran feeds from headunit they had a the rear speakers powerd of a amp/sub in the C pillar However I think autoleads does a lead that might help you http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1569.html

It powers on but I just need to sort the rears out. I've found this diagram though : Mine's non BOSE so I just have to wire the LR and RR to my HUs rear speakers harness (I think). I did that but I get massive interference...I can't turn the speakers on too loud. I guess that is because they are powered. I will try to hook them up to my HUs rear preouts instead I guess. Fingers crossed that will work!
Guest JonnyD
Funny feeling i had to move a pin on the harness adaptor cant remember which tho
jonathanc
Funny feeling i had to move a pin on the harness adaptor cant remember which tho hmmm well right now I am guessing that I get interference because I am hooking the rear speakers up as normal speakers to the HU. The rears are amplified so I think I need to use the HUs rear preout to avoid this problem. I've found a RCA to speaker adaptor at Halfords (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_186391_langId_-1_categoryId_165626) so I will give that a go. jonathanc
hehe no worries mate. I am kinna punching myself now as I should've realised earlier that I should not splice the normal speaker connections on the harness as the rears are amplified. I am pretty sure the HUs preouts should work as they are designed for amplified speakers... oh well, fingers crossed!
Guest JonnyD
Feeding the rear speakers from the HU preout wont work as its a non powered signal. Have to feed a non powerd signal the the audi amp If that a diagram of the origianl audi headunit ?

Have to feed a non powerd signal the the audi amp If that a diagram of the origianl audi headunit ? Yeah the diagram is from an Audi Symphony HU. I am trying to feed the LR and RR outputs to the preouts of my HU. The LR and RR outputs connects directly to the rear amplified speakers anyway on the factory setup so I reckon that should work? edit: I got the rears "working" just they seem to be over-amped. I guess massive interference and can't turn them on loud enough. I presume that is because I am connecting the normal rear outs from my HU with the LR and RR of the Audi system (which is amplified -only rear as mine is non BOSE). So theoretically connecting my HUs rear preouts instead should work? edit2: lol I just realised I am jonnyC and you are jonnyD edit3: what I was suggesting is to feed the non powered signal (HU preouts) to the Audi amp (the wires LR and RR connects to in diagram). Guest JonnyD
Ah one understands now Yes i think that would work and you have the AMP remote going to that switch feed too Dont you just love the way audi think sometimes

Another thing is I wished I've gotten x2 12" subs though since the sound deadening in the audi is massive! Barely feel/hear the sub from the boot. jonathanc
A slight update. I got the speakers working but stumped at the aerial. My stock HU accepts two inputs for radio, the normal ISO lead and one square weird one called a "diversity" or ZF plug. After some Googling, I was advised to get this : http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop//images/var/AUTOLEADS-PC5-137.jpg Weird thing is that I can only get 2 stations using this. Even if I don't plug the ZF end and the 12v end I still get the same so basically it's just getting signal from the adaptor plugged into the aerial bit. Just wondering if anyone have any idea on how to solve this problem? Is it possible for me to ditch the ZF/diversity connection and just get an amplified adaptor for the current aerial output?
