This engine idling issue..... there is indeed a lot of conflicting messages on the internet about it.

 

I think the general 'damage' aspect of an idling cold engine is that the fuel doesn't burn as well as when the engine is up to temperature (engine is being 'choked'). So soot deposits etc. work their way in to the CAT converter.

BUT if, as many do these days, your car has deCAT then the cold engine idle then becomes negligible.
