mwilkinson
I will start this thread with a NERD ALERT, the contents of this thread may offend the more "street'" people on the forum I work in London and get bored travelling on the train. I have read millions of books (no not literally guys!!) and thought I would start to utalise my iphone a bit more. I popped onto itunes and looked at what I could download and found a gem. I have downloaded Macross Plus. Simply it is amazing. I have always been a fan of Manga and Jap anime in general. I had seen this before but had forgotten how good it was. Having watched this I have found they have the full Robotech Macross Saga too. So I have just downloaded this. God bless the 1980's cartoon. I love the VF-1, YF19 and 21. Such cool concept aircraft. I have found a company called Yamato that do 1/60th models. Expensive but quite cool. Anyone seen this, have any views?
Rob
I have no idea what you are on about. What is this "travelling on the train" nonsense?

I hate trains too, but my rail travel is free and as such beats paying to drive
mwilkinson
Gotta love Manga. AKIRA FTMFW!!! AKIRA is very good and was groundbreaking at the time of its release, but the ROBOTECH saga was the first successful crossover of Japanese animation into Europe and the US. Granted they had to completely rewrite the story and chop the animation to make a meaningful english version but I like it. It was as a result of this that the Japanese studios considered the broader marketing of their products and as such made sure the stories and scripts could be adapted with little effort for the worldwide market. JustGav
Robotech rocked... Took me ages to find the series, and even then they wouldn't ship outside the US. Eventually got it sorted though.
Animal
ROBOTECH did, indeed, rock. Appleseed & Patlabour were good, too. Can't beat a good bit of mecha Anime.

Yeah I really enjoyed these too. Have you seen the reanimation version of Appleseed? Came out about 5 years ago. Was very good. I also enjoyed Ghost in the Shell, both the films and the TV series, Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex. I have both series and the films on DVD. They are really good, although the first series with the laughing man was the best.
Animal
Yeah, the CG was very good on the new Appleseed. I still prefer the original though. Ghost in the Shell was good, not seen SAC though.

Yes i am disturbed before anyone asks Yeah I have Ninja Scroll, another classic there. I think I have seen Urotsukidoj if that the dodgy over fiend thing (almost porn)? kjgreen3
Ninja Scroll is awesome as is the tv series and mini-sequel. Fist of the North Star is awesome too. I rented Urotsukidoji (legend of the overfiend) from Blockbuster years ago after realising they had a few anime titles, thought why not maybe its another ninja scroll....... what a mistake 'tentacle rape' is not my cup of tea. Thats the one: Legend of the overfiend. Got Legend of the demon womb on the same dvd, both are quite.....how do i say it.....borderline pornographic. Very strange and diturbing either way. I mean, sex with demons...talk about weird!!

Ditto mate, fully agree. I originally got a follow on from Ninja Scroll made by ADV instead of Manga. I didn't like it all that much. I do recall seeing a longer series made a few years later by Manga. Is this the one to which you refer?
