Chris Wilson
I have a trained dog. But I trained it and it has ongoing training, so I know what is likely to do and to not do. It's not a pet and doesn't go out socially save under strict supervision to sensible places. Buying pre trained dogs is like buying a pre trained mistress. She might work and obey the trainer, but behave very differently in new hands. There are some very dodgy security dog training firms, I can make a dog guard and be nasty in a week, but that's NOT what a properly trained dog should do. You are getting into very dangerous territory legally speaking, and a security dog who has any lapses in his / her training becomes like a loaded gun left on the mantelpiece. I wouldn't go there.... A properly trained dog isn't cheap, have you asked how much?
jazz1
Thanks for the input ideally il start with a young pup for me, what Is the cost I know they are not cheap. Would you recommend that place I posted the link too?

Swampy442
Listen to the advice above, if you want a working dog, get a working dog and make sure its well trained, but to have one as a pet? Danger danger.

Chris Wilson
You do realise it's illegal to just leave a guard dog roaming around a garage / building site / warehouse? It has to have a trained handler with it. Not sure if you are saying you need a personal protection dog or a guard dog. They are totally different things with different training. You worry me Trust me, making a dog bite someone is real easy, making it let go on command isn't. Making a dog bite the RIGHT person is also not easy, ask any honest coppers who work around police dogs how many times the wrong person gets bitten A proper protection dog from reputable people probably starts around 5 grand. You are paying for a LOT of professional time. Keeping on top of the training is a lot of time and effort. They slip out of it in no time. ilicos
Thanks for the input ideally il start with a young pup for me You cannot buy a dog as a pup with the idea of going on to train it as a guard dog mate. I grew up around a guy that used to train dogs for the RAF and also gun dogs. The RAF dogs were kennelled from pups to avoid them getting used to human contact as that defeated the object! Once they were 6-9 months old they would start basic training and by 1 year they were assigned handlers

The Raven
Why not train a family of rats? They could protect the place and live in your engine bay at the same time! LMAO. If your going to break the law i suggest Fila Braziliero........It will attack anyone or anything within 3 square miles. Down side, that would include customers, cats, children, old people, possiblely cars. Failing that install an alarm.
