Tannhauser
Mrs T.'s daughter has car trouble, and it's likely to be terminal. At the moment, she has an auto Vauxhall Omega that drinks petrol and breaks down every few days. Her previous car was an auto Vauxhall Omega, that drank petrol and broke down every few days. I'm going to suggest that she breaks the pattern and buys something else this time. Her budget is pretty minimal, £1000 absolute tops, and much more likely to be £600-700. The car must: - be reliable (I know it's impossible to guarantee for any car, but certain manufacturers are better bets, right?) - accommodate three kids (3, 6 and 9 years) and two adults -be cheaper to run than a 2.5 litre Vauxhall Omega. The car would preferably: - be a hatchback - not look like a total s**tbox - not be too ghastly on occasional long journeys The following are irrelevant - performance - handling - image Any thoughts on cheap, indestructible family cars? Obviously, she's not going to get anything fantastic, but there has to be a better alternative than the current one. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Scott
Honda Civic any good? Not sure on pricing but I think you could easily pick up an older one inside that budget.

Ian C
MkII Mondeo. Peanuts to buy, cheap to run, zillions to choose from, bags of room. Awful handling
Graham S
A Renault Scenic 1.9 DTi (under no circumstances a dCi they blow up daily!) We got ours years ago, never broke down (touches wood) and does amazing miles per gallon. Plus it has bags of storage, GIANT boot and fits our 13, 11 and 7 year old on it no probs. The Mrs loves it!
