I have the same, it sounds like the Wheel of Fortune with the Clacker

Asked loads of times, and nobody seems to know what it may be.

I have a carbonetic twin/Triple Clutch

But Mine started off ticking as you described but it iwas intermitant, now it is more costant and even on Idle sometimes

I find it goes away during wet weather and is more pronounced in humid/hot weather

I've had 3 different NA gearboxes now and tried numerous clutches (stock & aftermarket) and i've always had this noise when the clutch is not pressed in. I used to think it was the release bearing/ pilot bearing but changing these didn't stop it either. It must be a bearing in the actual box itself. I guess it's just one of those things :search:. I'm looking forward to getting my 6spd box fitted so i don't have to hear it anymore :D

What clutch/flywheel is fitted? Does it rattle at idle in neutral and go quiet when you depress the clutch pedal?

its a standatd clutch/flywheel on 97NA- once warmed put for 2/3minutes on drive (as alwaysdo) it starts making noise.

it stops as soon as compress clutch both in neutral + whilst changing gear.

once clutch released or after changing gears (clutch pedal fully released) it starts again.

in neutral after warmed up - if you give it slight more revs sound gets louder.

Any help be appreciated

cheers all

Could it not just be a knackerd release bearing?

If it's the same problem i was having then no. I replaced the release bearing and the pilot bearing and it made no difference. I was told by a mechanic that it was likely to be the main shaft bearing inside the gearbox.

Does the noise go away if you push the clutch in a little bit?

No worries, always hard to diagnose problems over the netz when you can't hear it.
