spiderpigcity
I am looking at converting my tt auto to 6 speed with a v161 box. If i buy a 97 supra n/a with v161 6 speed box will it have the lsd and is the axle the same or will i need a tt drive shaft and axle. basically if i buy the n.a 97 6 speed car will i be able to swap everything over without any problems? Homer
The NA 6spd has a the small casing 3.769 ratio diff from the auto TT. It can be used in the TT, but will obviously be much shorter ratio than the TT 6spd originally came with (v160 or v161). The driveshafts from your auto can be re-used, the prop will need to come from the NA 6spd donor. Ideally you'd need to source a v161 TT diff with a ratio of 3.266 (VERY rare), but that's not a neccesity to make it work. You will also need a new trans tunnel plate. The auto one needs to be cut out and the new one welded or bolted in. There's also a few holes to drill in the firewall to get the clutch master installed, but Toyota kindly marked these points out on the auto shell. spiderpigcity
Thanks for that, can i use cut the plate out of the manual trans tunnel with a dremel on the spot welds? also will my speedo be out if i dont use the 161 diff? Oh by the way for some reason the diff on my TT is not LSD, does that matter? cheers matt
Homer
I'm sure it's possible to cut the plate from the NA. but it'll look like swiss cheese and likely be bent to feck once it's finally off, new ones from Toyota are only £56, so easier to just to use one of those. It doesn't matter if the current car has an LSD or not, the driveshafts on the TT auto, v161 NA & TT are all the same. The only difference is when ABS is considered, but since you're leaving the originals in place that shouldn't be a concern.

Homer
The casing is the same, the only way to tell for sure is to remove the back plate
