Just some info please...

I read not to long ago (but cannot find), a thread involving an argument about 95' and earlier cars having relaxed UK emissions tests, where they don't need to use the cats or something along those lines. Is this the case or just urban myth?

 

And also from what i have been reading, do all 1996 and onwards facelift cars have the vvti engine and are there any other mechanical differences that make is harder to build a facelift single?

 

Hopefully i can get these answered as it will in effect decide what model i buy.

Hi, hope the link answered your first question, as for the second, not all facelifts are VVTi, there are a few about with the 'normal' engine, with the facelift goodies on them... Good luck with your findings..

The facelifted Supra was introduced in May 1996, the VVTi 2JZ-GTE was launched September 1997, so there are some facelifted cars with non-VVTi engines.

 

The only slightly limiting factor on the VVTi 2JZ-GTE is the availability of a longer duration, higher lift variable intake cam, HKS do one along with the electronics to control it but they are a bit expensive, the exhaust cam is the same as the non VVTi 2JZ-GTE. This shouldn't be an issue anyway unless aiming for huge horsepower.

 

Given the option I would definitely go for a VVTi Supra.
