Chris Wilson
What a bloody disgrace that in 2010 a major arterial route should be shut for hours following a small accident. The chaos and disruption to lives and business is incalcuable. What is it with the emergency services these days that a relatively minor incident has to be dramatised into a scene from a cheap American disaster movie? We have firemen in full firefighting ragalia with breathing apparatus and helmets on giving TV interviews hours after the last smoke trail has curled up, armies of police vehicles with flashing blue lights converging on the scene of trvial and inconsequential misdemeanours, air ambulances starring in breakfast TV shows with a cast of be-shaded and freshly coifurred posers standing around looking like extras from a Sci-Fi film. Can't people get a reality grip, clean up the mess swiftly and efficiently and let the country move along? OK, two men died, sad, but things like this happens hourly, why the need to close the M6 for two junctions for many hours? How many people DOES it take to change a light bulb these days...? It didn't affect me at all, but I was amazed just how many people in a small country pub had tales last night of lost business, disrupted schedules and direct and indirect upheaval as a result. http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/news/CHAOS-LORRY-HITS-MEN-M6/article-2628955-detail/article.html
tooley
i think because of the fact they charged a driver over the incident they have to go over board with incident investigation because once everything is cleared up they have no further evidence. the more they have the more they can pursue the case so whilst i do agree with your comments everything they did could well be needed. events like yesterday though make me think we rely too much on the m6 and m1 there should be another backbone motorway right up the middle of the uk imho

Matt H
You're truly a vile person, Chris - you never cease to amaze me with your complete lack of compassion and thought. Two People died, they can’t just clean them up and move on. They have to investigate the scene and take all the evidence they need. The emergency services have to close the road to investigate the scene, they can’t do that with traffic flying past them, putting themselves at risk. Perhaps the closure was too long and could have been shorter, but to post up a thread complaining about it when two people have died. If there is a god, you'd be going hell for that one. Chris Wilson
Oh Matt, you are just so sensitive.... Age tends to put a perspective on death I am afraid. Things happen, I feel modern society goes OTT in its emotional and practical responses. Take the wailing and hand wringing when that media made celebrity Lady Diana had a car crash. Totally OTT and a worrying insight on how the media can bring so much influence to bear on a large part of our nation who live their lives through vacuous TV people with little true statesmanship. AndrewOW
I would say the population wants halving instead, personally I would say the population wants halving instead, personally You said that twice. So, does that mean the population needs quartering, and perhaps hung and drawn too, I suppose? You are sounding more and more like my mum these days. Chris Wilson
Probably Alzheimers... I must take my vitamins. Oh, no point, I am off to hell in a hand cart, aren't I? Funny you should say that about your mother, I feel the generation gap is as wide today as it ever has been. It's a result of all that twaddle you youngsters were fed in school

It's a result of all that twaddle you youngsters were fed in school I agree with that statement, however I also would like to mention that people do grow up in todays generation with the correct understanding of things also. However as a result they are frowned upon by their peers. Also, my Mum is racist.
AndrewOW
I'm 41, Chris. She thinks anyone that's non white or has a 'funny' accent (other than Welsh) should be removed from the country, and that would solve the problem of over crowding. I, like a lot of others tend to just sit on the very wide and comfortable fence, and nod in the right direction every now and again.

Shane
We should make a Poll "is your mother racist yes/no" What's even funnier is that mine lives in Luton which is multi ethnic to say the least.

Shane
There's nothing funny about living in Luton Ha, yeah that's what she says! She is especially fond of the Lithuanian family opposite and the Bangladeshi family next door bless her. She is nearly 80 and has lived there all her life and in the same terraced house now for 60 years, so I am sure you can picture the scenario. Shane
I'll send her some Alf Garnett tapes..... Thanks Chris. However I am sure she has them, together with the the whole collection of "love thy neighbour". She did venture abroad once when Dad was alive, but they came home early as the Isle of Wight was 'full of foreigners and the food was muck'

Snooze
The public face that everyone puts on is always, "you can't put a price on a human life". Well, I'm sorry, but ultimately you have to. And EVERYBODY does, they just don't like to admit it.
