11/9/10 Burning of the Koran

Saddam did alot of this himself in the early 90s with the burning of the oil fields, which destroyed approx 90% of the Iraqi marsh lands and made tens of thousands of Iraqi Marsh arabs homeless.

He also destroyed billions of gallons of oil, which was obviously a scarce resource as it was. Hundreds of thousands killed/tortured/abducted under his reign, both his own people, Kuwaitis, Kurds etc.

The mistake the west made was not to Dethrone Saddam during the first Gulf war. There is no way on earth that the situation there is worse now than it was with him in charge, at least they have the opportunity for freedom now.

All I ever seem to hear when people talk badly about The Gulf is that it was all about the oil. Thats not it at all. The Iraqi people couldn't even make their grievances known as they were in constatnt danger of reprisals.

IIRC this was the result of the 1st gulf war when America virtually destroyed Iraq and left over 1 million people inc children homeless & hungry. to add to that economic sanctions that resulted in even more misery and disease.

speak to some iraqi people and hear it from the horses mouth....so to speak.

i never said it was just about oil - but that had a significant role in itself - the driver was the threat to the petrol dollar cycle - may be tough one to digest but sadly it is proven to be the case now time and time again.

Burn every religious book, every one. Get rid of everything associated with it.

Every religion is just a way of controlling people who are silly enough to believe it and be controlled by it.

Get rid of it all and you'll all be happy and free :)

Peace!

I can 100% assure you that would solve the issue.

Not all atheists are the same, a know a lot of them are brilliant people who had a very good way of life (if not the majority).

Though a number of them have no values, yobs, chavs, who believe in nothing, so they see no different between good and bad. They only see the law of the land as punishment and to be honest our soft justice system is not going to bother them.

The 1st Gulf war occurred because Iraq invaded Kuwait. Was the west just supposed to stand aside and let this happen?

If the Iraqi people supported that invasion then they have no right to complain about retaliation. If they didn't support it, and it went ahead anyway this supports the opinion that Saddam was a loony and needed kicking into touch.

Why filthy catholic and not just catholic?

Because Hitler didnt shower much :p

What i dont understand is why people follow the extremists in the first place? what is the logic behind what they do? what do they get out of it? whats it going to achieve for their kind? (this applies to any terrorist of and colour/religion)

Its all about the individual and his thoughts/opinions....forget religion and races. Each person has an understanding of something the way he percieves it, regardless of colour creed or religion. Thats not just relating to the Quran, that applies to everything.

The problem is, when people get power (im talking leader of countries power - presidents/prime minister etc) They try and run the place as their ideal...and obviously not everyone feels the same way. As you can see from people like Hitler and Saddam Hussain...greed power money and fame is all they care about...distill fear into people and they shall listen.

As has been said before, theres no reason why we all shouldnt just get along. I agree religion can be controlling, but we as humans have brains, we are not infinitely bound by these rules that are bestowed upon us, we can think for ourselves and know the difference between wrong and right, so why shouldnt we have religion and have the decency to respect and treat others the way you would treat your own family? that includes other peoples religions...learn to be tolerant.

We should all be coming together and making the world a better place to live in, sharing and learning things as was intended. Instead there are w@nk**s out there starting wars over ridiculous things - the stupid media doesnt help either, bunch of vultures and sh!t stirrers...never believe anything they say without finding proof of it yourself.

As a side and random note, check out Russel peters - Red White and Brown, funny as hell...and the mans got a point!

Good post.

I agree, after reading the BBC website every day at work for a while now it does seem that only the stories that will outrage people are put on there, I never see stories about anything good that's happened. The media is to blame for a lot of things.

Get 'em!!

Personally don't see what the big fuss is....the ammerican army have already set precedent by burning several copies of the Quran and pissing on it in iraq

Without wishing to defend the Americans here, it's not exactly a precedent is it? They've been burning anything with USA on it over there for years.
