bigbloodyturbo
The problem i've always had with FI M3's is how can they reliably handle that much power when their NA engine is designed to make power in an NA application, all the pistons and rods will be slim and lightweight so they can rev to make power and have awesome response, the bottom end cant be anywhere near as strong as a 2jz bottom end. So to make power you'd have to change all that and in essence make it more like a 2jz so why not start with a 2jz. They are well fast though, I just wouldn't like to bet on longevity of engine life. dr_jekyll
if i was going to go down that route as i love the look of the m3 i think id buy a damaged engined car and put a 2j in it. the cars in those vids sound good , but in real life as it pulls away there is a distict exhause or scream should i say that the camra just dosent pick up. Stonkin
They are a very raspy, almost tinny exhaust note as stock. Cheryl's M3 has an aftermarket exhaust from cat back. No idea on the make but is extremely well made and flippin loud. At 2k revs it does boom a bit inside but after that it literally screams. Having a 2j in there wouldnt be the same in some ways, its such a revvy engine and suits the way the car works very well. On the way back from santapod, she said, could this have a turbo fitted and would it go 'der, der, der, der'

Snooze
Yeah - I assumed as much too - just wanted to point out that BMW do do force-induction straight 6 engines. Although as he says, the M3s have always been NA, I think - even the new E90 ones.

Yep, the new E92 M3 I believe has a 4.0 V8 NA engine, they was thinking about turbo power a bit like what they did with the X6M but that would really be going against the history of the MotorSport developments. The E90 335i which are Twin Turbo like you say must have strengthen engines to cope with the FI.
