NOS
How much is it????? £6,250 or €7,500.
grahamc
Personally I think thats too much for a WRX! You can get a 2003 sti for 8-9K. Tax and insurance is roughly the same as well and the sti gets all the good bits. Things to look for are gearbo syncros going, clutch and rear suspension. Dont know where people get this idea that the engine is sh!t from?! Mine goes in, in 2-3 weeks and will come out running 450 (detuned to 420 for the track) on a standard STi engine. Thats not half bad for a 2.0l 4 pot!!!
Brett 1
get one slightly newer and you wont get the ugly 'Bug Eye' headlights

The bottom ends on the WRX are chocolate, they have to be built to put much more than stock through them. In fact, even the old P1's got into bother after 65k miles hence why they had to rethink the components used in the modern STi's. A guy I know has a 450whp wagon and it had to be built from the ground up to hold that power.

But agree with what you said now. 450whp is a fair bit!! I would not mind knowing the spec of that
Scott
I'll see what I can get for you. It's a friend of a friend, met on a stag do. He is on facebook though. Was built by a specialist up here.
SUPRALOOPY
So what is a good scoobie to buy? Oldish one? Really fancy one of these for a laugh.
davej705
The wrx is the 2.0 turbo,it's the base model of turbo impreza. Graham I wouldn't run 450bhp through a standard block,it'll be a matter of time before it let's go,I built my bottom end to have 500.sti blocks are reliable to about 400bhp,gearbox will end it's live about 350bhp,I killed 2 before having a ppg box built
j_jza80
Over 300hp in a car like this will feel very rapid. I've never owned an Impreza before, but my experience with driving them is that bugeye is preferable to the classic for a daily driver, as the interior in the Classic is truly horrible. Scott
The old ones weigh nothing at all, really fast corner speeds can be achieved. Not great as a daily though, the interior stuck out then... nevermind now.
davej705
I didn't think the interior in mine was bad at all,had aircon electric everythin including sunroof, seats were like recaros aswell

Take away the seats and the aircon and it was like a cavalier iirc.
davej705
Yeah your probably right, was a bit plasticy as I recall, but then again impreza's aren't expensive cars Functionally it was ok, it was just a bit plasticy and old fashioned. Thats not half bad for a 2.0l 4 pot!!! Experience! For a start yours is an STI, which is a different animal to the one NOS is looking at, your bottom end will stand the increase in boost, assuming the mileage is not excessive and it's been looked after. With an oil cooler, regular oil and filter changes the stock STI bottom end will be good for around 380 - 400 bhp if you want reliability, anything over this and its a bit of a gamble. Have a look on the forums if you want proof. There was a member on here who worked for Subaru and was very knowledgeable. No-ones disputing the ej20 engines and it's variants are not good for high outputs for a 4 pot, more that there is a long history of high mileage wrx's dying when boost is increased and that the engine to go for is the STI, especially if like you you are going to up the power. Out of interest how many miles on your engine? The STI is a nice, seriously quick car with great handling, and has 4 doors to keep the missus happy, although the ride is very hard for a "family saloon"
grahamc
After many discussions, with a couple of different tuners, people who 450bhp on STis, etc I decided that was the route. Car currently has 65k miles. The STi 6spd gearboxes are not bad, its the syncros that keep going. I plan to use the car a fair bit on the track (especially considering where I live now ) so, pretty much expect the engine to let go at some point... Not going to be silly with the mods and it will be mapped and maintained properly, but I do realise that it will not last anywhere near as long. When mine goes, I have my eye on a 2.1l kit which should be good for 480-500bhp mark which should be MORE than enough power to make up for my lack of driving talent Completely agree - most people try to push the WRX engines way too far and obviously end up with expensive rebuilds. NOS
Was meant to meet the Subaru owner tonight but we have postponed until Sunday afternoon. He has assured me it is a WRX 2.0 turbo and that he fitted the FMIC himself, and not the previous owner. He also told me that it is not a Jap import. From what I remember, its difficult, if not impossible to run a FMIC with the standard induction kit. Which means that it will cone style filter, which means it SHOULD be remapped!!! NOS
It hasn't been remapped or tuned. He said that he has a BOV but the car is pretty much stock.

For decent, low miles, clean, example, 8-9k is not too much... 2004, 64k, 9900 http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-for-sale-cars-352/846190-my04-jdm-sti.html
