CJ
I have a problem with my old Gen 6 or is it Gen 5 (the one with the double headlights) Celica. It is a 1995 n reg automatic import and has recently had a full service including cambelt change and auto box fluid change. The problem has manifested itself over the past few days whereby on starting (it starts fine) the revs do not go high and it sometimes struggles to find revs when you take off. also, it has suddenly started to go "stop start" with the throttle as if you are pressing and taking your foot off when in fact, you keep your foot where it is. I have also noticed the o/d light flashing. Any ideas?
CJ
The mechanic thins it may be a problem with either the fuel filter needing cleaning or maybe the fuel pump intermittently losing pressure. Feasible?
jagman
I have had similar problems caused by fuel filter
CJ
I have had similar problems caused by fuel filter I hope so - that sounds a cheap fix
Hoppy
If the fuel filter has'nt been changed for a while, might be worth replacing it mate. If it cures the problem, then you've killed 2 birds with one stone, so to speak If not then at least you've eliminated the filter as being the cause The fuel filters cost around £30 from MR T. Good luck
CJ
Well, it wasn't a fuel problem as the pressure is fine both from the pump and through the filter. He then thought that maybe it was a problem with the TPS but that was OK to. He now thinks it may be a problem with the auto box (electrical signal fault) and is having someone look tomorrow
jagman
Pressure and flow are different you cannot measure pressure and then say flow is good- a blocked filter can still give good pressure but not flow!

gannon888
my ex girlfriend had an import celica auto (gt tho) and she had similar problems, it turned out that the garage fitted a uk spec cambelt to her car which had an extra tooth. its been a while since ive been with her so i may be wrong, but its defenitely something worth pondering if the problem occured since the works been done on it
CustomIce
Gen 6 BTW I'm guessing the throttle body has been checked and cable tension is ok (i.e not slack) I had an old Gen 4 that was an auto, it did really odd things on occasion, worked better for a transmission fluid change for some bizzare reason. CJ
Well, it is back and repaired - sort of! The mechanic took out a valve on the auto box and wanted to replace it but due to it being a Jap import the Toyota garage at Kos didn't recognise the chassis number and so he ended up cleaning it and putting it back in and now the throttle problem has stopped. He also had an auto elect look at the brake problem as in when i pressed the brake the engine cut out! That too is now fixed but I have now developed a problem whereby the OD does not kick in and the lights are now constantly on main beam I could take it back and have them fix these things but that would mean it being off the road for another few days and seeing as I am buying a Greek registered car in about 6 weeks, I am going to live with it until then.
