Chris Wilson
SIDEWAYS IS THE (expensive) WAY FORWARD? So you have a gearbox being used way over its torque limit and you decide its good practice to slam it into second under full throttle loading......Hmmmm.... Chris Wilson
Almost certainly not, and if it DOES needs gears, synchro hubs or synchro rings it will probably be very expensive to fix as manual gearbox internals for Jap cars are historically an arm and a leg. If you are SURE it's just bearings and they are still available I can rebuild it, but it would be on a "as long as it takes" basis as I haven't done on of those before. Dr_Doom
Good luck finding another one, there rarer than unicorns nowadays! Probly cause dr doom keeps busting them all lol! I've got a v161 going in soon so fingers crossed there'll be no more gearbox disasters! I got my last w58 from a breakers yard after phoning a few places. There are some about but they're becoming rarer.
Rich8v
I thought your gearbox lasted quite well considering your bpu and use the car for drifting, compared to some of the stories read on hear.
edge
I thought your gearbox lasted quite well considering your bpu and use the car for drifting, compared to some of the stories read on hear. The amount of abuse that box took was unreal and it had a harsh paddle clutch in it aswel. It had been making odd noises for quite a few months before today but still worked fine. I just wish the 6 speed was as nice to change gear as the 5 speed was.
add heywood
I have a bill for mine to replace 4th gear synchro... £1800 It was a v160 but still a monsterous bill.

Kirk
Its a very daunting task to perform a box rebuild. If you have the ability and equipment then go for it but this is what you face
