Gaz6002
Do tell, does this mean you have met Ben Collins, I mean the stig? Yeah, did some driver training with him years ago. He showed me how well a Supra can skid.
Matt H
There was a bit of a discussion here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=226542&highlight=stig

tbourner
Wasn't it a different driver for the original black stig? Who was that?
Guest Suprastar2009
Hey everyone, this is old news to me I'm afraid I knew who he was for about 3 years, the director at the garage I used to work at was a race driver himself and he told me who it was as he used to race with him and is still to this day good friends. Gaz6002
Wasn't it a different driver for the original black stig? Who was that? Perry McCarthy. It's worth noting that the 'white' stig was actually several people, depending on what he was doing at the time. A lot of stunt driving was done by Russ Swift. Matt H
At least we get a new Stig out of this, and a bit of a funny story to go with. I wonder what the new Stig's colour will be - and how they will kill off the white Stig (probably in quite a horrid way considering the BBC's temperment at the moment!). The only bad thing is the issue a new Stig will present with comparrision on the existing laptimes.
Gaz6002
Can't see Top Gear carrying on much longer TBH.
Matt H
Can't see Top Gear carrying on much longer TBH. It still gets a wedge of viewers. It will be around for a long time, but perhaps what you're refering to is its current format? There's always going to be an interest in new cars and Top Gear is still the only thing on the BBC I ensure that my Sky+ records each week it's on. add heywood
Can't see Top Gear carrying on much longer TBH. As said in previous threads, TG has become a sit com rather than a motoring program nowadays. I can guess exactly what is going to happen when they go on their adventures... I still never miss one but I find myself more and more disappointed with each series. Would be sad to see it go but all I ever hear is negative comments about it now. If the Beeb have any sense they'll completely re-brand and possibly make a few different programs out of it instead of trying to cram so much into six hours each series. Matt H
As said in previous threads, TG has become a sit com rather than a motoring program nowadays. I can guess exactly what is going to happen when they go on their adventures... I still never miss one but I find myself more and more disappointed with each series. Would be sad to see it go but all I ever hear is negative comments about it now. I thought the episode last season with the Veryron SS and Tom Cruise etc was one of the best they've done. But in general, you're right. I want the humour and sillyness to stay, but I could do without the entire show sometimes being devoted to the pointless challenges and certainly the star in a reasonably priced car - I often fast forward through that. But where else are you going to get the hilarity of the test of the Reliant. The trip to the TVR yard was really interesting too.
Matt H
Exactly - the formula is dead now I disagree. It's not dead on it's face, it needs sprucing up a little and a trim around the edges, but it's not dead.
Thorin
Wasn't it a different driver for the original black stig? Who was that? Perry Mason? He was apparently a defense attorney in his spare time.

KamaSupra
the star in a reasonably priced car - I often fast forward through that. Me too Only watch it sometimes, Was good when Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were on... Although I think I only watched that part of the show for once because she was on I think it's a great show, but like other comments on here. It's not as much of a motoring program anymore. The challenges are sometimes pointless but I find them usually good entertainment. And the parts on cars can be intereting too. I don't think that now we know who the Stig is will end things. As he was only part of the show, the show wasn't part of him.
