Guest $hane
hi can any one say if the fto is any good or not my mate wants one They are awesome cars! Not quite in the same league as the Supra as as far as performance goes but they are nice looking cars - my mate has one and the only thing that I recall him warning against was noisy tappets
Benyon
I was gonna buy one until I found out I could get insure on a supra, Is your mate a girl? The best version is the GPX Mivec Manual which are hard to find at a decent price. I think they are over priced and they arnt that fast however the mivec sounds very nice let me get you a link to a mivec on youtube I used to watch a few times. Edit: I cant find the vid I used to love but heres what a stock one should sound like (skip to 1:10)
pistonbroke
Don't dismiss the GR v6 model. The difference is minimal in performance. The FTO is a sound car, mine was lovely to drive and the tip box was brilliant.
Abz
Don't dismiss the GR v6 model. The difference is minimal in performance. The FTO is a sound car, mine was lovely to drive and the tip box was brilliant. Exactly, I had a GR Model which I owned for almost 2 years, brilliant cars. The tip box is brilliant, it learns the way you drive & adjusts accordingly, found it very smooth and power wasn't too bad, I put in a ITG Induction (Best one for it) and the V6 sounded amazing! The handling is brilliant, though make sure you get decent tyres for the front as they over steer easily. Things you need to watch out for are heater matrix, tappets, welding\rust in the engine bay near the arches, the GPX (Mivec's) tend to be trashed around & a lot of the bottom ends go on them because of this abuse. Make sure the box changes gear smoothly, and when in tiptronic mode it changes through all the gears. Overall good looking car, nice to drive though it is rattly & noisy on motorway journeys (not much sound deaden). Join up on the FTO Owners club you should be able to get more advise on their, nothing though like this owners club.

Attero
I don't feel the looks of the FTO are appealing at all... but that's each to their own I guess.
Ian C
I've known a few people who've had these and couldn't get rid fo them fast enough. Purely from a reliability perspective I'd say "avoid like the plague". Very expensive to fix when they go wrong, and they do. Even servicing is a bit of a 'mare - one good example is that they run two different grades of spark plugs, as the rear bank of cylinders (transverse mounted V6) needs long life ones. Why? Because getting at them to change them is such a monster mission due to the engine location
pistonbroke
Its easier to change the plugs on an FTO compared to a supra. The inlet manifold has to come off, and that's it, very much like the NA supra. The non mivec gr engine is more reliable than the mivec. There loads on the Mivecs letting go, but very little on the non. The GR model also has hydraulic tappets, so no need to adjust, whereas the mivec needs them fettling every so often to shut them up. The only reliability issue I had with mine, was due to a previous owner steam cleaning the engine bay, forcing water into one of the big multiplugs on the gearbox, this messed the gearchange up and was stuck in learn mode. I found the fault, replaced the loom, job done. The only other thing is as Abs says, they're noisy compared to other cars, especially tyre noise. Oh, your biggest problem will be Mitsi themselves......they're useless.

dazla
hi can any one say if the fto is any good or not my mate wants one I've had 3 fto's before i got my supra. They've got nothing on the supe but they're a great and fun car to drive. Just be very careful when buying one. Most of them will have had alot of stick and in my opinion they cant take it very well. I spent a small fortune on repairing all 3 of mine. The last one i had to pay for a new gear box so that was the last straw for me. Still one of my favorite cars for what you can pay for one. dazla
The best one i had was the blue one. Manual gear box which is pretty was pretty rare at the time. It was 225bhp, it was like shit off a shovel until the gear box went.
