jevansio
Jay mate, in all honesty, I would be looking to spend around the 25k-mark to get the right Rangey with low miles and a more recent plate. The cheaper ones will cost you in the long run - I promise you. As I said in your for sale thread, go for nothing before the 2005 facelift model due to engine issues - these things are juicy and the repair costs are sky high at the best of times. If you want power then go for the 400BHP 4.2 Supercharged model which has plenty of spurt, as does a 4.4 Petrol. I use my Rangey very rarely but 10,000 miles will take you for 4.5k per year in fuel alone (4.4 V8) EDIT: If you drive it hard then add 1k more. What's the issue with the pre-05 engines bud? I def won't be spending 25k on a RR, if I get that much it'll be going on an M5 for sure My old 4.6 V8 never let me down once, is the pre-05 engine worse than the old 4.6 V8? Fuel serious isn't a concern, it' will be doing no more than 4000 miles a year
TopgunTT
No personal experience but a colleague was in a similar boat to yours & mentioned this, though you may have to push your budget slightly... worth it though How hot would this look on your driveway! Plus side it is a V12

jevansio
Monaro VXR? I always said if I ever got an LS engine it would have to be in Vette shell, but with I agree the Monaro would make a lovely DD with enough power on tap, I just don't love the shape Its a lovely car to drive mate, cant fault it, Very comftable when cruising, has all the toys, and when i want to push on a bit its superb. i can imagine the V8 RS4 is an amazing car if my S4 is anything to go by. Cheers bud, if the Supe goes I think I'll be defo getting some test drives of them What about something like this Jay? i am sure your lass would like it as well http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1952654.htm It's not me at all, I'm thinking Ferrari unreliability, it has to be a DD with an element of practicallity

Ahh right, so in effect I might be better off getting the last of the old 4.6s over the 4.4 if I couldn't stretch to a 05+?
Scott
The VXR8 is a far better looking car IMO... http://www.gotbroken.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/2007-vauxhall-vxr8-picture-1.jpg I would also have the RS4 before the RS6 though. Or the S8.
jon5698
What about some old school cool? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1668085.htm Or newer with your v12 engine you wanted http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1912362.htm

Yes mate, sounds about right. Then there is the 2006 model which came with the real toys including rear & mobile camera systems. They are just a novelty really but it keeps my son happy on short jouneys. For what it's worth, I don't think you are after an Audi or Vauxhall etc. They look like every other modern car on the road so I think you would be wasting one of your future car choices. You need something that's different from the crowd IMO.

You are bang on Andrew, I do like things to be a bit different, I like things with a bit class, but although the Audi is very bland exterior wise, it seems a hell of a car. The basic outline for the car I'm looking for is to get me to work & back with as much comfort & speed as possible without care for fuel economy, it has to handle winter and a large load would be a plus. I need it to be on the road 99% of the year, and not be in the garage all the time getting things fixed. Larger cylinder count is alos a bonus
jevansio
25k budget id have the RS4 over anything else mentioned. http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/1775568.htm It looks mint, would require some more saving up, but I bet it would be an awesome car. Is it me or does the interior look a bit boring compared to the RS6's a was looking at. I want this car to be a great place for me to be, I'm putting more emphasis on how the car feels for the driver than how it looks to onlookers than I have in any of my previous cars. jon5698
If you go for an audi Jay don't take it to the main dealer for anything, we used to have A4 avant's as company cars and every service they would try to take our eyes out saying it would be over £1800 to fix faults on them which should only cost a few hundred. Our MD and sales manager have the A4 S Line and A6 S Line, nice cars but all the problems i had with mine has put me off them.

Log off; go to bed with a hot chocolate and start looking again in the morning. I dunno, maybe, maybe not, all depends on it selling really. If it don't sell there's noway I'll be looking at £20k cars, I'll get an XJ and decide if ploughing any more money into the Supra is worth it. I do feel like with this new job I'm making a massive change in my life and dumping the Supra is part of it Don't know if you like em but my next car after the Supra is the M6, looks great and loads of power on tap. I love em, but again would take even more saving than an M5
