Todd
Used to be an IT trainer few years back, if I was you I would get in with the local council and start helping out on the charity side of things, helping old folk with IT skills, IT skills for the disabled and such like. OK you don't earn anything but it looks great on the C.V and shows that you are actively putting any skills you have into practice. Good luck

stevie_b
Sorry to hear this. Not working in recruitment, I can't really add any more than what others have said above, other than hang in there. Life's weird how it turns up new opportunities when you least expect it. Sometimes they happen when you think you're at rock bottom.

SupraStar 3000
Have been, and am currently in a similar position. Any way of going self employed in your field? Its the only way I can see of making a successful living these days. Chin up 50 your time will come
Fifty
for all your replies of support. Truth is I am "self employed" in that I refused to stay on the unemployed register. No help there as you know, a complete waste of time and petrol. My son designs websites and has done quite a few, he will be going to uni this year to do related degree; thats why I am studying CIW at the moment. Anyway in the meantime my wife Wendy had an idea for a business and together they developed http://www.startbar.co.uk/network. This is what they want me to "sell" and develop. It does have potential and is unique and very presentable. It is unique because it allows small business people to advertise at low cost AND to edit their entries; to my knowledge the other "directories" dont do this. However I dont have Marketing/Sales experience so can those in the know check it out and help with suggestions as to how to go about developing this; it may well be that its a non starter. Like all these things it takes time and effort. There is aleady a well known member on the listing; we would like any of you guys who trade to go on for free to boost the listings. Can you help? Please visit the site and fill in the form!! I really would appreciate ANY comments good or bad. Truth is just 2 (TWO!!) sustained sign ups per day equates to a decent salary.
Pete
One comment I'd make about the site. The front page is VERY busy. IMHO you should have a landing page which is the user front - at the end of the day you need people to be using the site to sell the idea to the advertisers. People won't use it if it's too confusing. (Think Google!) There should be a big banner saying "Get your business more exposure" or something similar (feeling creatively stunted this moment) which then goes into all the benefits and how easy it is etc for an advertiser to sign up... There are quite a few of these kind of portals. If you can back up the claims with strong usability figures then you should do ok. The trick is building up some users, which costs money through advertising.
