Guest musso2010
Hi Guys, Ive recently bought a 1993, 3.0 V6. I love it. However there are some issues with the speedo - or lack of it. If i give it a rap with my fingers it works for a short while then drops to 0. It is totaly dead now. The ode is working and counting in miles. It has some kind of speedo conversion fitted but i dont quite know what. The car is also limited to 112mph according to the person i bought it off. How would i delimit it using the delimiter that is already fitted? Or do i just have a speedo convertor fitted?

Gaz6002
It's not a V6 mate, unless it's got the wrong engine in it.

supra steveo
the supra's are straight 6 mate and thats a weird convertor , ive just done mine and it looked nothing like that oh yeah look at what thor racing sell, they sell a unit that is a convertor and a TSD (top speed de-limiter) all in one Edited August 24, 2010 by supra steveo (see edit history)

If it's a DSC (digital speed converter), and it could well be, it's the biggest one I've seen. They're usually smaller and shrink-wrapped in a thin plastic case. Anyway, it's quite possible that the speedo will stop working if the DSC is duff (a common problem with cheap DSCs). They're hard to test, other than removing it altogether and see if the speedo works again. To do this you'd need to identify the stock input signal for the speedo. Have a search on here for a Thor speedo conversion diagram which has the colours of the input/output wires for the speedo, odo, etc. It is strange that your odo still works though. The odo is downstream of the speedo. Still thinking about that one.... Who told you there is a delimiter fitted? All delimiters are aftermarket: it's usually either fitted and works, or not fitted at all. If there is a separate delimiter, it'll probably be beside the ECU in the passenger footwell. supra steveo
i think the DSC + TSD is the one you want http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/Speedo_Converters_Delim-150.asp the one on the right is what i fitted the other day it was a bit of a pain to sort out but after i was done and understood how to fit it, it was really easy

Sorry, didnt explain myself properly. I thought that the delimiter was also part of the speedo convertor... this is my first japanese import, so its all quite new to me. Am i right in thinking then, that i have a speedo convertor fitted to my car, but no delimiter? Im not to bothered about the 112mph limit to be honest. Ill check out the Thor one. No problem chap, we all have to start somewhere. On the supra at least, the speedo converter (DSC) and top speed delimiter (TSD) are generally different items. You can get a combined 2-in-1 module that does both of these things (see the one linked by steveo above) and the combined units are quite popular. I have a Thor DSC+TSD fitted in my J-Spec supra. I'd highly recommend them, they're not cheap but are much more reliable than cheap ones from eBay etc. If you're not worried about the 112mph limit (I can hand on heart say I've never reached 112mph in my supra) then I'd just buy a Thor DSC. Before doing that I'd try removing the existing thing you've got just to make sure the speedo works without it (thus proving the aftermarket bit is at fault). You'll have to remove it to fit another one anyway.
