Josh
Last time I went to Tesco Express there were 2 of the self-service machines with a woman helping people and no one on the tills. I waited 10 minutes and I was only about 4th in the queue because a lady did pretty much a family of fours' weekly shop without knowing how to use the machine, so much stress!! MrRalphMan
O so you are are the fools that hold me up. Nothing annoys me more than someone who has no idea how to work them trying to do it. I agree, last time I was in Tesco, the guy to the side of me was swiping his stuff, but hadn't pressed start. He wasn't delaying me so I just giggled to myself.. The Raven
I hear.........That the old style belts couldnt pick up cards. Also that if you had a dvd of £3 it was possible to swipe a it twice but pack a blu ray instead.
AndrewOW
Crawley B&Q only ever have the self serve machines open !!!!!!! No tills, whats that about. It's free, that's why. Sainsbury's is definitely the best for those, and their produce overall IMO. The definite lack of chavs is a very good reason for shopping there. Even spying some 'foreigners' is something 'special' too.

Digsy
Does anyone remember the old Safeway self scanners? The ones where it was all done on trust and you scanned your own goods using a handheld scanner and then paid on a card when you checked your scanner back in to the rack. Every so often at random you were directed to go through a normal till so they could check you were being honest about what was in your basket. I think they also built up a shopping profile for you based on what you bought and how often and if it changed significantly you had to go and be checked more often. My local store had this system installed and I loved it. However, while going through my divorce I did about a month's shop whilst walking around the store in a bit of a daze and forgot to scan about half of what I put in my trolley. Just so happens that I was checked on that shop and I had forgot to scan about £100 worth of goods. I don't think they were too impressed with me. I blame the Ex. They ripped it out shortly afterwards (hopefully not because of me). Safeway must have lost thousands on that system, but I loved it because it was so fast. marc_p
The Asda ones are fine, Morrisons are shockingly bad though, everytime I go I get the following: Beep Beep Beep Unexpected item in bagging area 'I remove item' Please place item in bagging area 'I place item back' Unexpected item in bagging area 'I remove item' Please place item in bagging area 'I place item back' Unexpected item in bagging area 'I remove item' Please place item in bagging area 'I place item back' I then out of frustration usually start bashing the bagging area with the item, followed by me leaving the items there and just going round the corner to Sainsbury's
AndrewOW
*beep* Morrisons *beep* I'm surprised you don't throw the contents of your basket at the nearest staff member, or their cars on your way out!
China Man
You lot have only have to use it, I have to deal with the abuse from customer from using my self check out. I have 3 in my shop and OMG the amount of abuse we get from customers, I would get rid of them if I have a choice but it is a corprate decision not mine. these machine takes hours to set up every morning and the down time is crazy. However, each SCO can serve 800+ customers per day where peopel manned till can manage only 300+ They took 2 staff salary away when they installed the SCO..... Matt H
Brilliant inventions and save a lot of time. Only retards struggle with them. They even allow you the ability to apply your own discounts
marc_p
I'm surprised you don't throw the contents of your basket at the nearest staff member, or their cars on your way out! If I could actually pay for the items I would launch a full scale cake assault and shower them in jam, sponge and cream whilst screaming 'you may take my shopping abilities, but you will never take my FREEDOM!!' China Man
Brilliant inventions and save a lot of time. Only retards struggle with them. lol I have no proble with it because I know the inside out of the machine. People: leave their hand bag on the scale and complain the machine is not working. Don't read what is on the screen and start scanning without pressing start and complain the machine is not working putting the chip and pin card with the pin side up and complain the machine is not working pulling the club card out while it is reading or writing onto the card and crash the machine and complain the machine is not working Don't know the notes are dispensed in the front slot and ignore the picture and voice telling you where the £5 notes is and complain the machine not giving change the only thing not working is you for once I can give the users abuse ha ha
Charlotte
They ripped it out shortly afterwards (hopefully not because of me). Safeway must have lost thousands on that system, but I loved it because it was so fast. They still have those in waitrose in Farnham - my mum loves it. My local Sainsburys still has that system: you get a scanner to take around the shop with you, and unless the system picks you out, you just pay what the scanner says without having to unpack your trolley onto the conveyor belt. tbourner
I hate self serve, I want someone to serve me and offer to pack my shopping for me, that's half of what I'm paying the money for!
