this probably a dumb question, but ive never really work on anything other than dirty neeeesans. just about to take engine out with box still attatched,

so how the hell does the shifter come out?

unbolted 4 bolts from the top, removed the rubber bits and found another 4 bolts, removed them, now at a loss as to how you get it out of the box? dont want to break anything!

sorted now. thanks mate

next question does the prop slide out or does it need unbolting?

Depends whether it's a 5 speed manual in a factory N/A car, or a Getrag 6 speed from a late N/A or all factory TT models. The 6 speed prop flange bolts to the gearbox output flange. The 5 speed N/A bosses have a slide out prop joint.

Yes, it needs the four nuts / bolts undoing, plus two cable connector plugs go to the gearbox. The box separates from the engine in what may or may not appear to you to be an unusual way. The clutch cover has to be unbolted from the flywheel via the tin access plates. The clutch then stays on the gearbox input shaft. If you don't know this people have struggled for days.... :)
