Peter P
Hey Guys, Did have a quick look round but couldn't see anything on this topic I promise! I recently picked up a low mileage set of HKS cams which I need to store for a while until I get my next Supe. They are currently in the original HKS boxes and have some surface oil from where they were in use but do I need to do anything more to them to prevent any rust or damage? Any advice appreciated. Cheers. Pete
Swampy442
Keep them in a sealed plastic bag with a bit of engine oil or grease in, as long as theres no exposed bare metal you'll be fine
ronttuk
i would cover them in grease wrap in paper and put them away in a dry place for storage

SPG
I could keep them safe for you in my engine for a nominal fee if you like

Thanks for the kind offer fella but somehow think I'd struggle getting them back again! suppose you'd look after the HKS cam pulleys as well for me?! For a nominal fee of course!! Chris Wilson
Wash them off with brake cleaner thoroughly, then air dry and cover in clean fresh grease unless you want to splash out on Rocol aerosols of preservative stuff? The reason to remove old oil is if it is OLD it will be corrosive due to combustion contaminants and maybe moisture. BE SURE NOT TO DROP OR KNOCK cast iron cams (which is what they are) as they snap or shatter VERY EASILY!!!! I pack them in very heavy walled cardboard tubes that I pick up from carpet places, or in plastic pipe with caps on if they are precious / expensive. HTH.
