"pitted" discs?

One of the warning items on an MOT was that all 4 discs were pitted. Is this something that will recover one the brakes get used or would it be best to replace them?

 

All discs are from cars (two of them) that had been used daily before being being fitted, but have since stood for between 2 and 5 years. They are not worn other than the "pitting", the car has only been driven about 3 miles since and only had low speed and light brake usage.

Not really sure what actually causes pitting (or even what it really is), but it doesn't appear to be deep. It's just a very slight indentation on the disc which I guess is caused by rust eating away at the surface.

 

It's not such a big deal and will replace them if needed, just don't want to spend money on new discs (which also means new pads) if it's something that will clear up after a few hundred miles use.

I had a similar problem when i'd had my subframe off for a few months. When it went for its MOT almost immediately after I got an advisory for 'brake discs corroded' or something as they weren't used for so long but they look dandy now. Just keep an eye on it I guess. If they still look iffy after a few good runs i'd replace them.

I had a car with a similar problem once, failed the MOT because of it!

I just took the disks off and sanded them down so they were flat (i.e not pitted)

Passed the following day, I suppose it would be the same as driving around normally, but I didnt have the opportunity.
