I Know fuck all and do Ok... Ok I'm lying just a bit...left school with nothing and paid off my own back to get qualified. That was just for jobs mind you. Being self employed means you make your own way and reputation and word of mouth counts not qualifications. Although I do state to everyone who asks GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN!!!! If I could turn back the clocks I would never have my head out of a book and would be alot happier in life.. I HOPE!!

4 years at uni, 2 years at law school, 2 years training contract all so I can qualify as a solicitor. I have mates that went into a trade after school with little if any A-Levels and they earn more than me without the need to incurr in excess of £40,000 student debt.

Thats some massive debt!

I've heard you just need a few years as experience then your pay will shoot right up!

You can always find the best of something and compare with the worse of something.

Go to Kings college, get a training contract LPC free and start paying off loans. Get hire by a commerical lawfirm and pay off rest of loan within a year.

If only it were that easy. I paid for my LPC and getting a training contract seems nigh on impossible. I have been working Pro Bono for 4 months now not to mention my previous voluntary work at law firms. The competition is ridiculously fierce and the legal market horridly saturated.

I will keep at it though because the rewards are great if you can persevere and get through.

It aint easy but at least you are qualified and you have a chance unlike other who is not registered. This thread is about degree being a passport to sucessful career and not passport to a easy career.

My wife went to Kings , did her law degree, applied to 30+ law firm for training contract and now 8 years qualified. Both me and my wife have no support from our family since started uni so it is possible if you choose your degree and path wisley.

I have a lot of year 10 work experience students over the years and I always give them the same advice. Get a degree which will land you a secure job or forget school and get a trade skill. Don't just do what you enjoy, you have plenty of chance to do that if youcan retire at 40-50 where others have to work till they die

Yeah I agree with what you say. This is the hardest part I guess; getting my foot in the door. I'm just so eager to start working and its my dream to work for a commercial law firm not just because of the money, but the job satisfaction and the passion I have for that area of the law. Working abroad in Europe or the Middle East...that would be so great.

It's a bit disheartening being in this position. Aged 25, no real concrete career and no Supra lol. But Inshallah I intend to persevere.
