Scott
It doesn't need to be left in, once you have booted the system you can then remove the phone. Once you reboot the PS3 the hack is gone though, you need the phone in everytime you turn the PS3 on. Transformers is up and running
GazzaGSi
Awesome Scott thanks for pointing that out. Thought it had to be in the entire time while playing, not just to load it. That's great thanks.
penguin
not sure i want to "brick" my ps3 yet ... it's only one i have and i love playing online!
Scott
Do you think I am first in line to brick my PS3 and not play games online? I'd love to see anyone seriously make a statement contrary to what you just said
Scott
Right small update. Before I started messing with my phone I backed up the entire thing using the clockworkmod recovery tools. I then wiped the data & the cache and installed the OD4.0.10 firmware along with the PS3 Enable firmware. I then rebooted the phone to make sure all was well, it took 30 seconds or so longer to boot but all was well. This worked fine with the PS3 so I was happy. Today I used the recovery menu to do a backup of my phone again, this backup will have my PS3 enabled firmware, and then restored my original firmware back on. This means that when I want to use the mod I can restore the PS3 firmware and when I want to use the phone as normal I just restore my original firmware. The only problem is that any messages/emails/contacts you have added and not backed up will be lost from the time the backup is created. A way around this is to create a backup of your current firmware everytime you want to boot the PS3 in homebrew mode (PITA). It's all I have for now though. Wez
The teensy 2.0 chips are less than £3.00, surely not too much involved in knocking a board up.
edge
I thought the new wii's were a pain in the arse but this sounds like alot of admin. Do they offer any anti brick type stuff yet scott? Or is less harder to cock it up?
Scott
The teensy 2.0 chips are less than £3.00, surely not too much involved in knocking a board up. Absolute canter. It's only a small memory stick that uses a certain way of connecting or something like that. There are memory sticks out there already that can do it. I thought the new wii's were a pain in the arse but this sounds like alot of admin. Do they offer any anti brick type stuff yet scott? Or is less harder to cock it up? This is by far the easiest mod I have ever done. The PITA is all the dross I had to sift through to find the correct information. I followed guide after guide of tosh until managing to crack it. Using a desire it has a few drawbacks as I mentioned earlier. Once your phone is rooted and the correct firmware is installed you are up and running in literally 2 mins. Your PS3 needs to be at firmware 3.41, if you are at 3.42 then there is no answer at the moment. There is no brick risk as it is a software mod, which is removed as soon as you reboot the PS3. The only trouble is you could get banned from online play, however the software used to play the backups now registers as COD2 so that should not be an issue. This is exactly the reason everyone likes this you are not changing anything in the firmware, simply making the memory behave differently by manipulating the code in memory to cause the leak so you can inject your own code. the COD2 thing they arent 100% sure whether it solves problem of being detected online, but every little helps. I love how things come alive like this, like the ability to remote play every game.
Wez
How do you upgrade to firmware 3.41, Sony dont exactly give you an option to choose which firmware you want, I am guessing its been made available for upgrade via a USB stick or something. Scott
Yeah, if you Google 3.41 firmware its available from a few sources. Unzipped it, stick it on a Ian stick and install from media..... job done.

Whitesupraboy2
Has the access to other OS been sorted yet? No so they say stick with 3.15 if you want other OS. and they should have a psgroove ready for all firmware's from next week

GazzaGSi
I may as well hold on then, thanks Definitely worth waiting as mentioned above. For the sake of a week you'll have a sub 3.41 FW still with OtherOS and the ability of homebrew etc

Scott
I have tried the PSP remote play trick with Tiger Woods 2011 and Mafia II without any success. Anyone else given this a go yet? I'm fed up with swapping my firmware over everytime I want to use it, I found myself on ebay looking for used Iphone 2g and Ipod Touch 1st Gen handsets lol. GazzaGSi
Have you checked psxscene? That's where I got the remote play info. Also, can expect customfirmwares soon after the latest developments.

Wez
Won't be long now since you can now launch firmware from a USB without the risk of bricking the unit. With v3.50 due out soon this is great as it's supposed to support 3D

It gets to a loading screen and just freezes there, normally it lasts about 2 seconds. The method is so simple it's ridiculous.

GazzaGSi
I've been thinking about the online aspect of PSJB. If you were not signed in and used the jb for single player or offline games but Then removed psjb and rebooted the ps3, signed in and played a legit game would it still recognise you've used the device previously on the machine? (Although I know you cant sign in no more with 3.41fw, just thinking for the future). Reason I ask is you would be able to sync the trophies you earn offline once you are online on to your profile. I wish sony would come out and say something along the lines, we will ban everyone who uses it Getting fed up of waiting to find out if they will or not. I wonder if they can even detect it And there's been some developments on getting OtherOS back too: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/6108/cimg1320.jpg http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9765/cimg1321c.jpg Although by no means complete yet. Wez
I run YellowDog on one of my PS3 and it works really well and looks great in full HD, its the main reason I haven't updated to the newer firmware releases, I think its shocking that Sony have been able to get away with removing a feature that was originally sold with the device. GazzaGSi
Good news for you too FYI: the vulnerability was introduced in ps3 fw 2.01 (2.01-3.41 psgroove is possible)
