Matt H
Considering a full game can be around 50GB on one blu-ray disk, I could enjoy the full gaming experiance of 1 or 2 larger games copyed to my HD disc... great.
tbourner
The PS4 will be out within 2 years anyway so I doubt Sony will be too bothered about them being hacked now, it'll keep sales up for the next couple of years. They've got the PS Move coming out as well which looks pretty cool - if you like the Wii style games! Should have much better motion sense than the Wii of course. Septic
No way is the PS4 coming out within 2 years. Sony are going to stick to their 10 year projected life cycle for the PS3 for as long as possible.
Mike
Sorry to harp on about it... but will it make it backward compatible and play US region Blueray discs? or is it just to let you butn games to the HD? I just want to play GTA3 and Tourist Trophy

There isn't 1 game anywhere near 50gb. You back them up to anything you want I.e an external hdd and they run from there, you don't have to back them to the internal drive. As I said above I won't be using this because I wouldn't want to run the risk of being banned etc. My main interest is seeing what homebrew apps are created and if OtherOS can be brought back. I've also read a lot of threads about ppl's bluray drives not working, this would be a handy way for their systems to get more use as you don't need the drive to play. The code can also be run off a psp to open up the ps3.
Thorin
There isn't 1 game anywhere near 50gb. I certainly seem to remember reading that MGS4 was. IIRC it was the first game to use a dual layer disc, most are still single layer so 25gb max.

They reckon so on a PS4 forum, mainly because of rumours the XBOX 720 will be coming out by Christmas 2012, so Sony will want theirs out around the same time, some people think by Christmas 2011!! Impossible. I wager my left testicle that the above wont happen. A reveal of the new MS console might be unveiled in two years but nothing concrete. Trust me, it aint gonna happen. Know f'all about ms so don't know about their console. I'd sooner them wait so the tech used will be more advanced.
Matt H
I reckon the PS3 and Xbox 360 will have a longer than normal life because of the ability to update it, but you can't update the hardware, so it will see a replacement sooner than they anticipate for two reasons - technology moves faster and faster, plus competition will probably demand it. One things for sure though, we're going to see a new Nintendo console sooner than a new Sony or Microsoft one.

I just want to play GTA3 and Tourist Trophy Mike, found this news earlier that may interest you: This message should probably cut some socks off: The manufacturer of the infamous USB Modchip "PSJailbreak" have been known to want to bring out in the next few days an update. The Backup Manager v1.1 it should be possible, among other things, on a normal PS3, no matter whether fat or slim, PS2 games to play. Furthermore, should follow a Linux support in the next update. Here are all the changes: Firmware Supports any firmware Supports NTFS Hard Discs Blu-Ray Discs Supports copying of Blu-Ray Discs Supports playback of the. Mkv video format Supports the playback and copying PSX and PS2 games (no matter which PS3 version, PAL, NTSC etc). Automatic updating of the stick via PC. Lets Play online without risk of excommunication. Its quite wide spread now and devices (including the HTC desire) can run the exploit on the PS3. Whitesupraboy2
Sony released an update today to block it. Dont update is the word at the moment as they already have more updates on the open source. no one is sure what it is yet. however they have already found a way around getting online with the lower firmware by just changing your DNS!! Yeah I was reading about that earlier. Its strange really as they released a FW update months ago to block the DNS trick yet now it seems to work again with the lastest update.. odd. From what i've read alot of people who dont want the homebrew, just purely want this for 'backing up games' have 2 consoles. 1 for games they want online which they buy, 1 for games they dont want online so 'backup'. It'll only be when games start coming with the firmware on the disc itself that a problem doing this will arise, unless there is a method created for the PS3 like there currently is for PSP i.e CFW 5.50GenD3 being able to play games that require 6.xx. Will definitely be interesting to see how this pans out anyway.

I have no idea how changing your DNS settings would help! as all it does is resolves names to IP addresses.. which normally goes back to your ISP, i.e. BT or Virgin Media etc.. Google psxscene. Its on their homepage how to do it. And also Logan5's tool/2009 works again on 3.41 to get access to the PSN without updating to 3.42. GazzaGSi
That's all the PS3 games making themselves available What do you mean Scott? Another bit of an update, it Is now possible to play all ps3 games via remote play on the PSP with a simple step by step guide to follow. Controls take a bit to configure as there's no L2 R2 or 2nd analog stick but most games do not utilise the dpad now so some can be used there, if comfortable. Shame Sony only made a handful of games use this feature, with a PSP control scheme on some of their games it would have surely appealed to more people. It seems that backup isn't the only way ohh ive missed that wheres the info on that?? As so far read thats not possible to use ISO's. Havent looked up on this for few days. Not since they got a calculator to hack the Ps3 Regarding games requiring firmware to play I wouldnt worry. Im sure what will happen is the game will be backed up to the hard drive and using the 3rd party FTP app already out there you will be able to edit a file to say it requires a lower firmware rather then the latest. Now they have the ability to edit the games, as long as the peopel arent worried about playing online things become easier.
