Supe
Hi everyone, I'm in the process of buying a used clutch from another member on here. He has told me the clutch is fine and is near new, however he can't confirm the mileage on it, as it's from a 6spd conversion.... I have no problem with the seller he has been very helpful and answered all my questions, but I feel I need a second opinion just to be on the safe side According to the seller - "The clutch is as new, dont know the mileage, but the sintered parts are not even worn yet." Do you think it will be fine? Thanks
evinX
Why would you buy a used clutch? dont get people sometimes...used parts like discs, brakes etc etc, theres no point...
pedrosixfour
Why would you buy a used clutch? dont get people sometimes...used parts like discs, brakes etc etc, theres no point... For the same reason you buy a used car. Saving money. To the OP: If you know the make of the clutch is it not possible to find the thickness of a new friction disk and then compare it to the one in the offer. FWIW it looks pretty fresh to me. But what do I know!
Supe
Why would you buy a used clutch? dont get people sometimes...used parts like discs, brakes etc etc, theres no point... Yeh, likewise I don't get people who spray their cars with rattle cans... If I was to buy a 'brand new' clutch it would most likely be an aftermarket one as stock clutches were not really intended for a BPU Supra... I'm buying this clutch as I'm having a really hard time deciding which aftermarket one to get. So, to give me that extra time (at minimal cost) to look for the right clutch, I'm deciding to run this one for the time being. Secondly, me posting this thread should show that I'm not just going to throw any old used junk parts onto my car... Finally, with regards to brake discs, brake pads etc, I would never buy used ones. Hoppy
There still appears to be plenty of meat left on the clutch plate. The closer the clutch plate gets to those rivets, the more it is worn. Going off the pic, i would say there a few thousand miles left on it at least. According to how hard it is used of course.
Chris Wilson
That's as near as new as you will get with a used driven plate.
Rinus
This friction disc looks nice, pressure plate also in good condition?
dude
Why would you buy a used clutch? dont get people sometimes...used parts like discs, brakes etc etc, theres no point... Why would you paint your car with satin black rattle cans???? To save money because you think painters are a rip off, why pay £100's for a new clutch when this will prob do the job for almost the same miles for a fraction of the cost. edge
That looks mint. Ideal for a spare after when you go uprated. Just change the spigot as its only £5 But if it was a ford or french clutch i wouldn't bother
JODY T
I put in a southbend that's about half life, was a little unsure at first as ideally IDE like new but 1200 for a clutch and fidanza flywheel is a little excessive when ur skint like me at mo.. Fitted and is just fine.. It's a bit like having an engine rebuild then buying a new clutch when the old one is perfectly good.. U just wouldn't do it.. As with all 2nd hand parts be very selective and u won't get bitten Op is being clever with post as he is trying to minimise risk.. I say fair played.. Spend what u save on something else! I got my 'new to me' girlfriend about 43th hand, I dont see a problem with it. 1st hand girlfriends are pretty rare and well out of my price range and most of their Fathers have such a lack of understanding. It pays to skimp sometimes, even on consumables. You dont half come up with some weird stuff EvinX :/
