trinitom
i'm looking to replace my front tyres form 225/45/17 to 225/50/17, and after the same to the rear tyres from 255/40/17 to 265/45/17. would this make any effects on handling? Guest blueangel
why exactly are you putting on a larger profile
Chris Wilson
They'll make the ride softer, and maybe quieter, and probably they'll give noticeably better wet weather traction. Ultimate dry grip and "feel" may suffer slightly. Other side effects will be the speedo will read low, and acceleration will be marginally weaker. Guest blueangel
As chris said lol
Nic
Another option for the front would be to fit stock sized tyres 235/45/17 these would be slightly wider and the tyre wall height would be slightly larger. Your rears are currently stock size.
trinitom
thanks guys, CW pointed all the reasons that i wanted. the speedo won't be a problem as i have a adjustable thor unit.
Kirk
Just to jack this thread for a sec. What about sticking with stock profile but instead going on size wider? I.E 245 f and 265 r? Any adverse effects?
dr_jekyll
if you go to a 235/45/17 you will have a slightly bigger wall than a 225 and again if you go to a 265/40 off the topic i have a mint pair of used dulop sp 9000s in a 225/50/17 cheap
Kirk
Im running 235s at the minute but i managed to get hold of a mint set of 245 for my fronts which are 8.5 wide so i figured what the hell. More grip up front to me is a good thing.

Any adverse effects? That would increase the side wall height (side wall dimension = width x aspect ratio %), effect would be same as Chris posted earlier. dr_jekyll
i personally like to go slightly oversize. might be all in my mind but the car allways feels better at the wider end of the scale of what is advisable for a rim. for istance i have 245/40/18 instead of 235/40/18 285/35/18 instead of 265/35/18 the rear 285 has a noticeably higher wall than the 265 and i much prefer the feel of the rear with that set up Edited August 18, 2010 by dr_jekyll (see edit history)
trinitom
now just wondering, do i need to change the geo settings for a bigger profile tyre, or stock will do the job?
