mwilkinson
I have a TT Auto torsen diff removed from my car. I have just opened up the case to take a look at the diff to confirm that it is in fact a torsen diff. To be honest it does not look like either of the pictures I have seen for stock torsen or open diffs!!? Can anyone shed some light on this please. jimmenico
looks like an open-diff
mwilkinson
Hmmm you say that but I thought open diffs had a large open section in the diff itself. Its also of a manual converted auto car which says it should be a torsen diff? If it helps, when one side is spun the other rotates the other way, independent of the main flange. mwilkinson
Link to images of a Supra MKIV open and torsen diff Here is a link to two images. One a supra torsen and the other an open diff. Mine does not match either? With regards to my diff the diff looks the same all the way around. There are no openings in it like the two in the pictures above. It also appears to have helical type gears inside more like the torsen one.
HadeS
Is that not TRD lsd?
mwilkinson
Is that not TRD lsd? No idea. But I thought the TRD LSD had smoother appearance on the casing.
David Reid
It doesnt look like the Torsen I removed, it looks to me like some sort of plate type LSD

JustGav
I'll swap you for an open diff or even a torsen
mwilkinson
I'll swap you for an open diff or even a torsen This is spare at the moment so if of any value it will be up for sale. I'm going to go get another picture of the internals. Hopefully somebody might recognise what make it is.
David Reid
I can also tell you it isn't a KAAZ if that helps

mwilkinson
As promised I have gone out and taken a few more pictures of the diff. i am happy to say that this is definitely not an open diff. It has a series of helical gears which I have not seen on an open diff. Here are a few more pictures I have taken. There are some numbers on the diff which is N849 and D230? Mean anything to anyone? Swampy442
Looks like a Torsen to me, well, same gear set up as a Torsen anyway
mwilkinson
I'm of the opinion now that this is a stock torsen diff (this is due to the helical gears). All the images I have seen of torsen diffs only seem to be pre facelift manual diffs. This is from an auto and it might be that they all look like this? Edit - Too slow!! Chris Wilson
It's a stock Torsen diff for sure.
