RastaMc
Hi there. I have one question. I own a non turbo supra 1995 but I see that the fuel consumption si about 12 litres/100 km. That's a lot i think. I read about the consumption of the TT and this is around this value. Does somewone know how to decrease the consumption or what shall be wrong with my car? Thanks a lot
geordie82
could be a little more gentle with the go faster boot, but that spoils the fun, dont worry just hand over the credit card
Gaz6002
You could try to clean or replace the O2 sensors. That should help if your current ones are in bad condition.
Nic
New oxygen sensors.
Ewen
Just for reference within the thread, your figures work out at 23.5 miles per gallon.
imi
Just for reference within the thread, your figures work out at 23.5 miles per gallon. seems fairly reasonable for a 3 ltr engine.
Attero
You have to remember that these are olds cars now too. The mpg will significantly lower to the mpg you will see in modern cars with the same size/power engine. Besides, 23mpg is good.
johnny g
That does seem a little low. I get that out of my TT - o2 sensors as mentioned above...
Dnk
Under what conditions are you getting the figures from ? if thats round town, stop start driving then its pretty good imo, if its on a long run on a motorway, dual carrigeways etc and not thrashing the go pedal then its not so good. I've had 30 mpg out of my car driving it sensibly on a long run. The minute you start gunning it though the fuel consumption goes out the window and you can get down to low double figures if not single figures ! RastaMc
For you Geordie82 hahaha. Very kind of you!! I tried in both situations..like a crazy demon and like an old f@#$... lady. In the first case I don't have to tell how it was, but in the second one I still had a high consumption rate. I'll try to check out the O2 sensors and also reset the ECI. Maybe I can figure out something.
Chris Wilson
If you do a minimal annual mileage it may be cheaper to just put a bit more fuel in it and leave the O2 sesnors as they are pretty expensive items. The consumption isn't THAT bad for an old design 3 litre engine in a heavy car, to be honest.
MARCUS1979
Mine is now running in the 19 - 20 mpg Wheres the best place to get these O2 sensors and how much? Have done a search and found the part number i need and being n/a know i need 2 of them but websites like partstrain.com dont have the same part numbers Any ideas? Gaz6002
My car does around 25MPG when I take it easy... don't worry about it. The Supra isn't a Prius and costs a lot to run
patrik
i think actually than 1,2l/ 10km is much for the na its what used driving very sensibly most of the time and not soo some of the time in my old TT. Its all about driving style how hard you get it up to acc if you are in a neibourhood with lots of traffic jams/speed bumps/ or just in a free flowing area where you never need to brake :-) i can mention that the supra i bought monday is a TT and thanks to a rotten cambelt i had to be super duper careful driving home. its was a trip on motorway only and stopping for fuel driving in 65-67mph and between 2000-2300 rpm and it did 0,8liters / 10km for 1600kilometers but as stated had an eggshell under the gasfoot. almost in prius teritorry with a TT. How ever with the your issuse you need to check the consumption over a couple of tanks of gas and if you drive a lot just change 02s and maybe sparkplugs too? that usually helps alot but the best way to have prius consumption is to use the pedal like a very old lady. But then again the hole purpose of having a fun good looking sports car disapers
Dnk
Check your tyre pressures on a regular basis as under inflated tyres will really hurt your fuel consumption !
patrik
http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=220582 here are the partnumbers and a forsale tread for 02sensor in one [GRIN][/GRIN]
Matt H
Has anyone asked what this chap thinks his consumption should be? I personally think he's a little bit optimistic about what the engine should be able to achieve.
Chris Wilson
No, I don't think anyone's asked, go on Matt, dare ya'
RastaMc
I know that the Supra an old car is and that it's not like a Prius. But what I don't get is that this n/a consume the same amount gas as a TT. I don't think it's normal. But another idea is like patrik said is to look at the spark plugs and another one is to check the tyre pressure (tnx Dnk).
Neil-NA
I get around 16mpg on my NA, i am expecting new 02 sensors to help alot.
Dnk
Check your airfilter too, everything adds together, just for your referance i have a 52 plate 3 litre petrol na BMW which does around the same as your 1995 3 litre Toyota na !! I can get more out of it but i would have to be on a long motorway journey and be very sensible Edited August 18, 2010 by Dnk (see edit history)
RastaMc
Thanks guys. :) With all these information I'll try to find out what's going on. For sure: spark plugs, O2 sensors, maybe rotor of the distributor, tyre pressure will be the first things. Air filter is new, I bought it some weeks ago.
