StuartW
Currently i Have a spoilerless Drag supra running 9.89 Quarters @ 141mph. I want to consider the pro's/con's of having a spoiler, its design and affects. So it seems pretty well known that on the strip the standard supra spoiler causes too much downforce and actually slows the supra's Elapsed time's. It would be very easy for me to be a SHEEP and copy some of the bigger boys, Leon Green runs low 8's @ 175+mph and runs an OEM style swept back spoiler, I am pretty sure its a Greddy one? When i asked him about it he replied "it was on the car originally so i kept it" My current thoughts are with a TRD spoiler as it's design seems to have more upright sides over the OEM supra spoiler thus reducing drag and increasing downforce. I am at the early stages of the racing with this being my first season, I guess back to back testing and analysing the data logging is the only way to prove success! I have noticed some of the other doorslammers have elongated the bootlid with aluminium sheet and brace bars, This may aid the parachute release as its generally tucked right up behind the top surface of the extension. My theory is this type of wing would give the car more straight line stability by elongating it and best of all cause very little or no drag? I was just hoping someone on here has had previous experience and maybe even definative tests I understand it is all about a comprimise of downforce over grip over drag etc....But any thoughts greatly appreciated. TLicense
Whatever wing you fit will induce drag, so personally if I were seriously drag racing, I'd not run one.
Dnk
I'd have thought the same as Tony and not using one is the way to go, surely the wing will only be helping stabilty once youve reached a fairly high speed ? Maybe the car set up needs some tweeking to make it more stable at the top end. Edited August 16, 2010 by Dnk (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
The only reasons to fit a rear wing on a drag race car are if it becomes so rear end light due to aerodynamic lift it either becomes directionally unstable or lose traction at a speed where a wing would produce enough downforce to counteract it, surely? If neither of these things are happening you are just nailing on weight and drag. Bit like these drifters that spend days making rear suspension that has no grip, so they can slide, then nail on a huge wing to, err, do what exactly? dude
If you do need a rear wing and it comes off this will happen:blink: Edited August 16, 2010 by dude (see edit history)

It also pushes the rear wheels down, the rear wheels that are trying to put down up to maybe 1500 hp:blink: My wing will stay thanks, plus I will use my car for the mile events and at 200 mph it does make the car more stable. JohnHandy
is that a greddy rear wing on your car?? Yes and it's still not for sale! Seriously looking at the shape of mine it looks like it gives less downforce than stock but retains the stabilizing ability...... Not too sure what 200 is like yet (NA) lol.
