7k and 30 days...

Let's say you have £7000 cash to spend and 30 days from now to make a decision. You can't exceed the budget not even for a pound.

What car would you go for? Keep in mind that this car would be used for daily commute so it has to be practical and reliable and used throughout the year. (So unfortunately no Sups :( )

Gimme some ideas! GO!

How long do you want to keep the car for? Couple of years or run it til it dies 10> years time?

Also you don't mention economy :) so just reliability and practicality?

Hehe, anything that manages 25+mpg on the motorway is considered! Couple of years mate, maybe around 5 till I save enough for the 535d! /dream

Golf GTTDI, anniversary edition

OR

BMW 330D

The E46 330d is tempting, I have a 330Ci now and to be honest I don't like the clutch delay valve on it. I don't know if 330d have them as well tho...

Golf GTTDI? Any particular model/year?

Oh, I am looking at this 2000 Aristo as well...tempting...

Dunno about the BM's mate, although they drive pretty well and the 330D has bags of torque and decent mpg to boot.

The Golf I'd be looking for the latest mk4 you can find. The Anniversary Edition comes with a few extras as standard that make it that bit more special. The higher bhp model with a remap would be a cracking car.

Golf GTTDI has VWs 6 speed box & it is prone to failure.

New one on me :search:

Surely it's the same box that's in the A3 / S3?

Could be i don't really know. All i know is 2 of my friends had to get thier gear box changed 1 of them had a GTTDI & 1 a passat 5 speed. The mechanic said the 5 speed is soft but not near as bad as the 6 speed & he's seen a good few fail now. I asked my friend with the GTTDI & he said he heard the very same thing.

Sometimes i wish i still lived in scotland, the cars are so cheap.

Maybe it's me nitpicking but for a 8 year old car with under 100k its had a few parts replaced (Aircon, Power steering ect) they just don't seem to build them to last anymore.

Car is in Kent :p

But yeah, I see your point... this is just one of the many examples though. This one's been modified - I would prefer something stock or close to stock.

edit: I am a sucker for quad exhaust though! :D

I'm really interested in Audis since I've never owned one. Any particular recommendations?

I have two A4 S lines on my drive. 143 2.0 Tdi is not quick nut lovely to drive, especially on the motorway. The missus has got the 2.0T Petrol and that is a lot of fun and you get 30Mpg generally.......;)

I've looked at Audis but don't really like the looks of the earlier models...really like the evil eye look and rear led lights of the newest models but I can't afford it :(
