What do you do with a fast lorry? Lighten it, of course! Warning, may upset Jurgen...

I am sure Jurgen has actually seen this before, but this is the first proper attempt to lighten and make a serious R35 track car I have come across. One can discount the Sumo car as it's so far removed from a 35 as to be a different vehicle, (V8 N/a instead of twin turbo V6, manual paddle shift transaxle, 2 wheel drive, all carbon, virtually custom chassis and suspension).

That comment reminds me of a quote in this month's Race Car Engineering, an excerpt from the life story of the founder of Lotus, Colin Chapman:

Colin Chapman to Mario Andretti : "Mario, I want to build you a *REALLY* light car for next season"

Mario: "Colin, I want to live as long as possible. We need to sit down and talk...."

I did smile when I read that. Seems like a good issue this month. I do like a bit of Lotus.

Sensible fuel cell, within the wheel base and as low as possible. So many people nail them high up inside the hatch area and create something far less desirable than a stock set up.

Not bad for Americans, although the door intrusion bars are a bit OTT, weight wise, they look like something from a cattle crush ;)

I suppose it could be a proper race car when finished, with relatively new models you either build one yourself or wait and buy someone else's which makes it not the first privateer build. Apart from the cost of the base car I don't suppose what they are doing is much dearer than properly prepping any other tin top for the track. Hell, what am I doing, defending some Yanks...... :)

You have to wonder if you're going to spend that kind of money....why not just buy a proper race car?

Exactly what I was thinking... minor mods here and there I would understand but I was wincing at the images of everything being stripped and cut down.

Well perhaps if I have an unlimited source of money I would understand :) Making the most mental R35 out there!
