Guest Ross_28
Hi, I am looking to buy a supra in the very near future but would like some help and advice before i take the plunge into supra ownership. Whichever supra i am looking to buy i will be using daily to commute to and from work which is a relatively short journey. The car will also be taken on occasional track days and be used as a fast road car. With this in mind i am looking at single turbo supras which is where i need your advice. With the budget i have i am looking at pre-face lift modified supras with the single turbo conversion already done unless you would advice otherwise and in that case budget would strech to a standard facelift car which would be modified at a later date? For this instance i have taken some advice and have been looking at cars on the japanese market with the single tubo conversion already done. Unfotunately i am no expert on turbos and am looking for help as looking through the japanese auctions/ dealers to import there are the following turbos mentioned which do not seam common compared to the T67 which is commonly mentioned on this forum. T51r T78 T88 Single HKS GT3037 I have done some research on the above list and correct me if i am wrong they are Japanese turbos as opposed to the American T67. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the turbos above and what is there output range in terms of horsepower and spool time. I am looking for between 500 - 600 BHP or would this be too extreme for the daily drive? Thanks Ross
pezzler
Welcome! Cant offer you any advice on performance from each of the turbos you have stated, obviously the supporting mods will also be a factor The best thing you could do is to contact Jurgen (JM-imports), he's a member on here. Tell him what spec you want, tell him your budget, and let him sort the rest. As far as I know, he hasn't disappointed anyone that he has sourced cars for. It will be much easier and safer to have an established, trusted importer source a car for you Happy hunting Oh, and thoroughly research the pros and cons of owning a 600bhp Supra. What car do you currently drive if you dont mind me asking? Edited August 11, 2010 by pezzler (see edit history)
dude
Turbo technology has moved on massively from the dinosaur T88 etc, newer turbos spool quicker and make more power with less lag. Also newer design ECU's enable you to tune that much closer to the 'edge' to improve drivability.
Guest Ross_28
Thank you again for the welcome. I have spoken to Jurgen and been to his premises and am presently looking through the auctions he uses to get an idea of what is on the market and the sort of specs that are available. As to be fair i am relatively new to japanese cars and in particular turbocharged cars. I am therefore trying to find out what would best suit my needs to establish a specification which i would then give to Jurgen and let him source the right car. I currently drive a bmw 328 sport and use a Radical for trackdays and have had a couple of Westfields so am not scared to do my own spannering but am also fully aware that some jobs need specialist tools which are not feasible to own in a home garage. The pro's are fairly evident however while some cons will be obvious such as fuel, tyres could you portray some light on the others? Thanks Ross
dude
Cruising you may find a properly converted car is more economical on a run if its mapped properly, the tires will only wear out if you wheelspin everywhere, the grin factor will make up for most things, you could always buy a converted car and stick say a Precision 6262 DBB on and sell the old turbo on here. That way you would get your 600hp and it will spool almost as quick as a TT.

monsween
You may want to include Paul Whiffin in your list of people to see. Have a look at what cars he has instock also.

Thanks Ross You may well benefit from a decent suspension set up and geo, from Chris Wilson as you are obviously used to a good handling car (radical).
