jackso11
I have read several posts on the getrag 6p boxes and this one is pretty good, loads of numbers... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=29830 but, is there actually a difference that you can notice when driving them? 2mph top in a specific gear surely isn't noticeable, right? I don't really want another load of numbers as an answer, just thought it would be good to have a thread that gives the opinion 'yes the v161 feels much quicker' or 'no you can't really tell the difference' Edited August 11, 2010 by jackso11 (see edit history)
Scott
I don't think you will feel a difference but I'm pretty sure that the times would show a difference, especially in your really fast drag cars. 6th gear would definitely be noticeable as it wouldn't be anywhere near as long. Homer
I made a graph of this for Jamies thread last week, it shows the ratios betwen the two boxes. It shows the v161 has better ratio's between the gears, the gaps between each are more or less equal - most v160 owners will know what I say when the gear ratios are not exactly equal with the first 4 being quite close then big jumps for 5th and 6th. In reality, I don't think you'd notice any real performance difference, maybe slightly less accerlation up to 4th, then more in 6th at the cost of speed, on a very high powered car the v161 would be better as it will hold it in gear for longer. jackso11
I guess the diff makes a difference too, with an auto LSD TT diff any ideas what the chart would look like Homer?
dude
Auto LSD is not a good idea in a 6spd drag car dude;) and you will only use 4th at best so the 6th ratio makes no difference, even in the standing mile at 240 the yanks are still in 5th. SupraAyf
Did someone state recently that a 160 was the stronger of the two - could be completely wrong though:rolleyes:
kslb
I have the v161 and my wife has the V160 and I drive both and to be fair in every day driving you do not notic a difference however if you are building a drag car the figures speak for themselves. What figures dude??? Am I missing something as I have not seen any threads re this, the fastest 6 spds in the world all run a V160;) Edited to say looking at the graph you may well think that the extra speed in each gear is good but that will change if you run a UK spec diff which does make a lot of difference drag racing, the biggest thing you want is to hang in first that bit longer and the V161 makes no difference.
