Abz
Thanks for the explanation, funny how I've heard about it over the years and worked with people who are fasting yet never really asked what it was all about. No worries Paul, the fact you asked is considerate of you... hold on, you going soft on us? Same here mate but as with all cultures there are lazy and hard working ones. The answer is in you reply, 'minorities', of course there are seemingly more lazy bone idle Brits because there are more of them. I don't think anyone should generalise, there are a load of eastern europeans that are equally as lazy and also many that come over here that are crooks, it's not unique to us Brits to have lazy buggers in our society Totally agree on that! (Something is not right here) I was just about to congratulate you actually - 3 pages and you've been very well behaved! Nope, I've worked it out someone has hacked into Paul's account
penguin
following on from what someone else had said about purpose of Ramadhan, The month of Ramadhan is not like any other month; its purpose is to rid a person of those habits which they have accumulated throughout the rest of the year. It is a month that prepares a person for the remaining eleven months by teaching them discipline and self control. Thus, Allah (God) has made some acts which are beloved to mankind, like eating, drinking and fulfilling one's desires, Haraam (prohibited) during the hours of sunrise to sunset. If a person can control these desires in this month, which are usually permissible for them, then they can surely control themselves from other desires which are not permissible throughout the remaining months, i.e. excessive consumption of food/drink/resources/materialistic things/lying/swearing etc
