You shouldn't be fasting if your ill, people who are ill are excluded from fasting.

You can't eat or drink from Sunrise until Sunset, no water or anything.

It is one of the 5 pillars of Islam which we follow, basically it a month of charity. Similar in a way to how in Christianity you give lent, or you would refrain from eating too much and mainly bread\pancake based.

During this period you are fasting for all the poor people around the world who can't eat a clean meal everyday. Brings you back down to earth to remember those who are less fortune than you. Other things included in this month are more prayers, one very long one which gets completed each night. The charity part is you need to donated 2% of all your earnings to Charity, give clothes etc.

Then after the month has finished you have 3 days of celebrating where you can stuff your face. Though it is recommend doing this fasting period you don't stuff your face as it defines the point of fasting, all them poor people don't have the luxury of a coke once the sun sets like we do. :)

Thanks for the explanation, funny how I've heard about it over the years and worked with people who are fasting yet never really asked what it was all about.

Ramzan Mubarak Ya'll

The only things that get me are the headaches from lack of Tea in the morning and the first few days while your stomach is adjusting.

Might also be worth mentioning its a lot easier for us folk in the UK, imagine working in the desert at +40 without drink!....oh I better also change my avatar!

You are allowed to swill your mouth out as long as you don't swallow it though aren't you?

It's good if you can do it but there's no way I could do that... Unless I was being paid.

Could you swill your mouth with nandos chicken, so long as you spit it out afterwards?

I'm in Kuwait for 12-hours and if I eat anything in public then it's a 100KD (230 quid) fine and a possible 3-month jail sentence.

Similar in Saudi, they'll arrest you and most probably deport you after locking you up for a while. Beatings and lashes if you don't work for a company that has good connections. We used to have to cram into a server room with packed lunches and lock the door. What pissed me off was all the Saudi's in the office would come into work around 11am because they'd been up all night eating and partying. Central Riyadh was absolute mayhem after sunset.

I would like to say you're correct but you're not old boy. The Polish and Eastern EU/EC contingent have a great life by comparison.

Yup, you're right, I'd love to be able to unblock your drain pipes, most importantly who doesn't like sticking their hands into a toilet bowl to clean it/unblock it! Lucky poles!!!

If the Brits did I very much doubt anyone would go further than France !

Believe me they do, they just get better money here than anywhere else in the eu because we like paying a lot of money on labour...

The Polish guys take a good number of the jobs which the lazy Brits won't take - good on them IMO.

and that's coming from a Brit, i.e. me, who can trace his lines a good few hundred years back in this country.

Paul mate - I just hate lazy people and if that applies to the Brits more than some of the minorities then so be it;)

Same here mate but as with all cultures there are lazy and hard working ones. The answer is in you reply, 'minorities', of course there are seemingly more lazy bone idle Brits because there are more of them.

I don't think anyone should generalise, there are a load of eastern europeans that are equally as lazy and also many that come over here that are crooks, it's not unique to us Brits to have lazy buggers in our society ;)

LOL, he started it :D

I'm seriously interested in others and what they follow in their lives but will also stand up for us Brits as it seems all too easy to knock us without the 'R' word being used;)
