Prop Shaft Heat Transfer

M Plate Sz N/a Import

Drove to London from West mids on Sunday after about 2 hours on the motorway cruising about 80 mph I found there's a significant heat transfer in the centre console from the foot well to the rear seat.

By the time I got to Brands Hatch both sides of the console carpet were quite warm, in the ash tray I keep some loose change and this was very hot to touch, so much so you couldn't hold the coins for long as they were that hot.

Could this be a bearing problem?

Just wondered if anybody else has experienced this as I don't take the car on the motorway much.

Thanks for that, I'm not sure if an aftermarket systems been put on as it all seems standard. I'm guessing if it is then the heat shield may have been removed, never noticed it before tho.

Any ideas where the best place to get a frequency expander for the radio from, does anybody on here sell them?

Welcome. It's normal, the twin turbos exude a LOT of heat and most exits the engine bay down the prop tunnel. Add radiated and convected heat from the exhaust system, and the gearbox and you get just what you describe. If you are still concerned I can easily take a look at it for you, also being in Shropshire (see my sig).
