Blackie
So i've been thinking, If Jim morrison, Sid vicious, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn monroe, James dean, John lennon all lived on to be in there fortys or fiftys would they be so cool and regarded as legends? or was it quite lucky they died young and famous at there peaks and will be remembered forever? SupraStar 3000
I don't know Blackie but I often think, Ayrton Senna died racing which made him a legend. Obviously, the skill and driving made him one of the best drivers, the charity work and compassionate side reinforced his status as one of the best, but his death immortalized the legendary status. Michael Schumacher on the other hand, quit racing after having an astonishing career, only to come back and drive like a moron. I think history favours those who die fighting than those who wither and retire. ie. Admiral Lord Nelson

Rob
Take Mccartney, undeniably the equal to Lennon yet he also went on to produce The Frog Chorus, Ebony & Ivory and the maudlin Mull of Kintyre. As Debbie Harry said, but didn't do, Die Young, Stay Pretty.
Guest Diematrosen
Surely Sid Vicious isn't regarded as "cool and a legend" today, I doubt if anyone other than 70's ex punks even know who he was.
SupraStar 3000
princess diana is another. Most of us remember her with fond mammaries,... but older and shriveled, would she have been so fine.

Guest Diematrosen
legend. He may of been a smack head but he was ubercool Really interested to know why he is a legend and ubercool. As someone who grew up during punk Sid always seemed like the 'untalented, exploited, drug victim, sad one"

Max Headroom
All these legends appear to have feet of clay, good at what they do, but their personal life sucked. Drink and drugs in the main part for our "pop" stars. Take a look at the likes of George Best or "Gazza", both legends on the field, yet off it plain old human beings. Something to do with the celebrity culture that abounds, we have real heroes and legends yet because they are not "cool" they are marginalised. Yet again Dead=Legends, because we only remember the good bits and we are not reminded of the bad bits
Animal
And if Ozzy had been taken instead of Randy Rhoades, he would have retained his (albeit tenuous) credibility. Instead, he became a bumbling puppet controlled by the evil succubus he married and will now be remembered as that stupid old man from reality TV and oh yeah, he made a few good records way back. Pity he didn't succeed in killing the bitch back in 89, the world would have been a nicer place.
