mwilkinson
My car is a 95 J spec TT and comes with ABS as standard. I don't have any error codes and as far as I can tell all my ABS sensors are working fine as my RLTC seems to be happy and signal feed tests show not intermittent signals from any of the sensors. Today whilst driving I had to perform a rather hard stop which involved the brakes locking up and an inevitable skid!! I was expecting the good old pulsation of the ABS which never came which meant a rather pant filling moment when I had no control during the skid. Can anyone help me understand why this might have happened and if this is a serious issue with my brakes that needs looking at? The only factors to consider here are the fact that I have upgraded from J-spec brakes to UK spec brakes. Will this effect the ABS? Would uprated discs, pads, wheels etc all have a part to play Any input would be gratefully received.

shaky
I have a j spec tt with uk brakes, uprated disks, red stuff pads and 18's on it,and the abs kicks in fine as seen on the m.o.t test last week so you must have a problem
mwilkinson
Hmmm yes it's strange that I don't get a code or warning light. Does anyone know how to fault test the ABS?
edge
If all wheels have stopped then the abs may think the car has stopped? I have only experienced this on ice though and not in a supra
mwilkinson
I would like to think the ABS could tell that going from 30 to 0 is more than the car just stopping!? I've checked the wheel speed sensors through the race logic and all appears fine. I think I need to see a diagnostic process and work through this to see if everything is working as it should. Chris Wilson
There's diagnosis procedures in the UK / US workshop manuals but they may not work properly / at all on J-Spec cars. There are pages and pages of stuff on the ABS though it's impractical to post it up.

It says you need some type of mackine to test the ABS actuator? Are there other ways of doing this which anyone has experience of? The other thing I was thinking might be an issue is that my car originally came with j spec brakes and I changed them for UKs. I know that the volume of fluid is different between the two and thus possibly the pressure? Complete straw grabbing on my part, but I do know the uk models came with a larger reservoir. Could this be causing an issue?
